18kt. “Pure White” 0.61ct.I1-H Solitaire $1298.00
. One of the problems with white gold is the need for the occasional application of a rhodium plating to give a bright white finish. This ring is alloyed with a proprietary combination of 75% gold, a few other “secret” ingredients and palladium. The palladium gives the ring a whiter colour without the need to rhodium plate. The ring contains one semi bezel set round faceted diamond of I1 clarity and H colour. The diamond has a unique pavilion made up of 96 facets (a standard brilliant cut has only 24) giving this diamond more brilliance. Gents 18 karat wedding ring consisting of 3 traditional style wedding bands looped together to form a loose rolling style. These rings feel so comfortable they literally roll onto and off your finger. The 3.9mm wide bands are made from rose, yellow and white gold and weigh 12.6 grams. Garnets are one of the most under rated of all gem stones. The range of colour they offer runs the entire spectrum except blue. With depth and saturation levels that few other more expensive stones stones achieve. Simple design and great quality. I never get tired of seeing this type of ring especially when it is made up from high quality components. This 18 karat white gold ring likely dates from around the 30s or 40s and contains 12 bead set round brilliant cut diamonds of nice SI-I average quality totalling 0.75 carats. The 12 channel set step cut rubies are what makes this ring impressive. The colour is great, just like red Jello. My photography skills do not do it justice. Not too dark and a pure red hue. These 5 diamonds date from the mid 1800s and the ring is likely from the 1950s. The combined weight of the 5 “mine cut” diamonds is 2.00 carats all the diamonds are well matched in quality at SI calrity and an I colour. The diamond on the far left side has a chip on the crown by the bottom right claw. At some point during this rings life someone fit a hinged expandable shank to fit over a bigger knuckle. This 14 karat Canadian made ring is modelled after one of our the best selling designs but bigger. I mean much bigger. The average version of this setting is around 0.75 carats in total. This one is 2.10 carats and is looks great. The centre diamond weighs 1.06 carats and is of a really strong I2 clarity (looks like a I1) with a very good H colour. Canadian made 14 karat white gold ring containing a 1.07 carat radiant cut diamond of I1-G quality. I’m sure this diamond was a SI2 until a small “knot” let go just inside the table edge and formed a tiny cavity. The diamond still looks great but because this inclusion breaks the surface it looks more like an I1. The mark is so small the photo does not pick it up. It contains a 0.61 carat SI1-H Maple Leaf diamond from the North West Territories. The girdle edge of the diamond has been laser engraved with the image of a maple leaf, the “Canada Mark” and specific serial number CMAF-118562. The rings are currently a size 5. 10.00 Carat Star Sapphire and Diamond Ring $3625.00
I used to think opals were the most difficult piece of jewellery to photograph, but this star sapphire was way harder. After about 50 shots this is the best I could do. So I will have to describe it. The 10.00 carat oval cabochon cut star sapphire has a very pale blue colour, a perfectly a centred 6 pointed star that rolls across the stone as the ring is moved. The platinum setting weighs approximately 7 grams. Surrounding the sapphire are 10 baguette and round brilliant cut diamonds totalling 0.25 carats all of VVS-FG quality. . It’s been a week or so since my last post so I thought I would show you something nice. This classic 3 stone trinity design ring dates from the later 1800s and contains 3 mine cut diamonds. The shoulder diamonds each weigh approximately 0.95 carats with the larger centre mine cut coming in at around 1.60 carats. That’s a total of 3.50 carats in diamonds! The quality is SI with approximately a K colour. These diamonds almost certainly came from South Africa as this was the primary source of diamonds over 100 years ago. This type of diamond is known as a “Cape” colour in reference to the typical colour range found from the Cape area in South Africa. The antique platinum setting is approximately a size seven but can be made smaller if required. This beautiful piece of jewellery history is estate priced at $10000.00

. This diamond has an interesting story. It came in on trade as an unloved previous engagement ring. The quality definitely had a few issues but the cut had truly been compromised, at best the cut was average. So we had it re-cut to very good standards loosing 13% of it’s original weight in the process. The only thing keeping it from ideal cut now is a table percentage that is 0.4% too big and a girdle thickness that is only 0.6% too think. It now really looks good and is a great value at $2350.00 ready to go in a 10 karat white gold solitaire setting. $2250.00 for the diamond alone.

. When it comes to evaluating coloured stones there is one thing to keep in mind, colour. Colour is everything and this sapphire has it. The 1.12 carat (7.5mm x 4.8mm) blue sapphire is one of the best we have ever seen. It has the most vivid shade of blue with non of that inky dark colour that is so common today. A nice quality diamond is uncommon but an exceptional coloured stone is far more rare. The deco inspired design looks like the ring was made in the 1920′s but we feel this ring is only a few years old. Surrounding the sapphire are 10 baguettes cut diamonds and 8 round brilliant cut diamonds all of very good quality VS-F. . It’s nice to see sets like these that have been made high lighting quality rather than just maximum size and the illusion of value. The centre diamond weighs just short of half a carat at 0.48 carat, is a solid VS with an H colour and a very good cut. More impressive is the setting. Made from 18 karat yellow gold with a 6 prong platinum setting 11.8 grams in total. The ring would have looked just as nice with a white gold setting, but someone decided to go for quality opting for platinum. It’s more rare than gold, whiter than white gold, longer wearing, resistant to oxidation etc. The 21 perfectly matched channel set shoulder diamonds are VS-GH quality and weigh 0.03 carat each. The rings also has a European shank with a slightly squared off bottom lowering the rings centre of gravity and keeping them more aligned. . This is what happens when you have a little original thinking. This ring was designed using white gold’s natural tendency of a spring quality. The 14 karat white gold setting has no connection to each side of the ring except at the bottom leaving the diamond to float between the shoulders using nothing but the compression of the two sides to secure it. The ring weighs just under 11 grams and is polished up to look like new. The centre diamond is 1.24 carat VS2-JK with a good cut. This type of setting really does flatter this stone. Mid 1800s ruby and diamond ring
We always have 100′s of estate rings but not very often ones that are 150 years old and still in good condition. When this ring came in it was all original only one pear shaped ruby was missing. We had the stone replaced and refinished the setting and now it’s ready to go. The 16 round diamonds (0.66ct. t.w.)surrounding the rubies are rose cuts and look much bigger than they weigh due to their shallow cut. Natural orangy yellow diamond ring 0.97ct. $12500.00
You just never know what may show up in our estate section. When this ring came in it had certification from the well known Toronto lab Harold Weinstein Ltd. I was confident in their report but I wanted to make double sure this was a natural unenhannced diamond so I sent it to New York to the GIA to get an origin of colour report. The GIA report #5121011306 confirmed stone to be a natural fancy intense orangy yellow with even colour distribution can be viewed at www.gia.edu (verify a report). Natural round yellow diamonds are quite rare, but a natural round orangy yellow diamond is exceedingly rare. This diamond is not replaceable. Sapphire and diamond dinner ring
Now this is a ring with a little history. My dad sold this ring new over 40 years ago to a local lady who wore it proudly only for special events. Sadly she passed away a while back but before she did she gave us the opportunity to purchase it as she didn’t live the life style any longer to wear it very much. This ring has a hard to find emerald cut blue sapphire weighing approximately 2.10 carats surrounded by two rows of round brilliant cut diamonds (36 in total) weighing 1.50 carats. The sapphire is a beautiful medium to dark cornflower blue colour with excellent clarity and the diamonds are also of excellent quality VS-FG. 1800′s diamond and sapphire ring
I am posting this for a lady that came in today and really liked this ring. It’s from the late 1800′s and has been completely restored to new condition. It is made from platinum and 18 karat yellow gold. The centre European cut diamond weighs approximately 1.04ct. How about a really nice quality ruby? Did you know rubies are much more difficult to find in very good quality than diamonds. This is an example of a fine quality ruby. It is almost the colour of red jello and just as transparent. It is approximately 1.50ct. and is set with 2 diamonds 0.25ct each. The 14 karat gold setting is in good shape with little wear. I am always amazed by the variety of interesting items we receive. This is a very nice chrome tourmaline from Brazil. This stone is estimated to weigh approximately 3.00 carats and shows a beautiful bluish/green colour that changes hue as the ring is moved. Tourmaline are not very rare in average quality but this is not your average quality stone. Also unusual is the shape. Here is a stone with some history, if only it could talk. We purchased this diamond a few months ago in not so great condition. It was in a worn out setting and had abraded facet junctions and a few small chips around the circumference. The previous owners must have really loved it due to all the wear and tear it suffered over the last 100 years. We had the diamond re-cut and polished retaining the original European cut geometry. The repaired weight came in at 1.59ct. and is graded VS1-KL . It was then set in an 18K “Lucidia” solitaire setting weighing 6.5 grams. This would make a great remount candidate for someone who likes the unique optical properties of the older cutting style. The ring complete is offered at $9000.00 or just the diamond for $8500.00
