Baume & Mercier made headlines in the watchmaking world in 2018 with the introduction of silicon in the construction of key regulating components found in the Baumatic automatic movement. The hairspring, lever, and escape wheel are all crafted from this high-tech material. Silicon is non magnetic and doesn’t require lubrication, this leads to a more consistent transfer of power and higher degree of accuracy. This sort of innovation was quite a surprise as it came from the quiet brand Baume & Mercier. The parent company of B & M are the Richemont Group, they also own luxury brands Cartier, IWC, Panerai, Jaeger Le-Coulter, Vacheron Constantin, Piaget, and others. It’s interesting that they debuted this new technology in a moderately priced Baume & Mercier rather than one the their premium brands. Perhaps this is the beginning of a reinvention of the close to 200 year old B & M brand. If the silicon mechanical parts were not enough, the Baumatic BM12-1975A 21 jewel movement also features an ultra long 5 day (120 hour) power reserve. Most automatic watches have a 2 or 3 day power reserve. The overall look of this watch is very Swiss traditional, especially with the snow white dial. Finely tapered hands and hour markers that allow precise time keeping with easy interpretation. Fitted to the watch is a high quality chocolate brown crocodile strap. This watch was originally purchased in Korea in 2019 but has never been used. It comes complete with the original endorsed paperwork, packaging, dealer (MyungBo) travel pouch, documents, and polishing cloth that was never been used. Baume & Mercier no longer produce the white dial with the rose gold trim, but they do show a similar brown dial for $5,500.00. 14kt. 8 1/2 inch x 6.5mm Figaro link bracelet, 15.6 grams, $1,320.00 CAD. 441-00316

The Figaro link for chains and bracelets continues to be a popular choice in both new and estate. They offer a little more visual interest with smaller and large link patterns compared to a uniform size curb link style. This one also showcases a bright cut flat edge that catches the light. Solid construction in upgraded 14 karat yellow gold results in a finished weight of well over half an ounce (16.6 grams). As I’m typing this posting, gold is touching a new all time high in Canadian dollars of $2,950.00 per ounce. At that price this bracelet contains over $900.00 in just its gold content. The bracelet measures 8 1/2 inches long, 6.5mm wide, and is quite thick at 2.0mm. It is secured by an upgraded riveted lobster clasp, most are simply pinched together. We’ve seen the spring loaded sections of pinched clasps slide out occasionally; this type can’t slide out offering better security. One of our goldsmiths can shorten in for the perfect custom fit. 14kt. tri-colour gold hoop earrings, 23mm, 7.0 grams. $550.00 CAD. 426-00221

You can do almost anything when it comes to hoop earrings. This pair features a rose, white, and yellow gold brick work pattern in the centre with a bark texture. The rough texture shows off the subtle colour differences much better than any polished finish could. The solidly constructed earrings weigh a substantial 7 grams with sturdy butterfly friction backs. The measure 4mm wide and 23mm diameter. The edges of the earrings would benefit from a quick polish that can be done while you wait by one of our goldsmiths. 0.20ct. tw. I2-GH Maple leaf Canadian diamond drop clusters earrings, 1.0gr., 10kt., $210.00 CAD. 151-00288

These may be some of the smallest Canadian diamonds with engraved tracking numbers we’ve encountered to date. The centre diamonds in these pretty, round drop cluster settings each weigh 0.07 carats. Maple Leaf diamonds goes to the trouble of laser etching these stones with a specific serial number that allows you to confirm their origin online here. We confirmed both of these diamonds came from the Ekati mine in The Northwest Territories. They are of matching I2-G quality according to the website. The Canadian diamonds are prong set at the centre of the round clusters that each contain 10 more tiny diamonds, bring the total weight to an estimated weight 0.20 carats. They are constructed from 10 karat white gold with spring loaded French back wire. The round drop settings measure a subtle 5.5mm diameter and weight an imperceptible 1.0 grams. They are in like new condition appearing unworn. This timeless style of earring has always been a big hit with our customers looking for estate earrings. We’re not usually sellers of silver bullion at Bill Le Boeuf Jewellers. Over the past few years we’ve sold very little but bought almost every ounce offered to us. Every once in a while we like to let go some of go. This attractive 1 ounce Canadian maple leaf coin from the Royal Canadian Mint is just such an item. This coin is in uncirculated condition. Fine 9999 silver is very hard to find at reasonable prices and almost never appear around here in the original RCM shipping package that is now 30 years old. Fine gold and fine silver is not applicable to any form of sales tax in Canada. The Canadian Revenue Agency deems the sale of fine bullion a financial transaction therefor not subject to Provincial or Federal sales tax. With all the turmoil happening in the world right now, everyone should turn a little extra cash into some form of precious metal. This coin is being sold the current spot price plus 10%.
