2021 The Montreal Incident Unexplained Phenomena 99.99 fine silver $20.00 coin. $260.00 (NO TAX). 912-01118
On November 7, 1990, roughly 40 witnesses—including police, journalists, and hotel guests watched a massive, silent, metallic object hovering over downtown Montreal. Beginning around 7:20pm, the UFO displayed glowing green, amber, and yellow lights and remained suspended above the Hotel Bonaventure for close to three hours before slowly vanishing. The incident began when an American tourist swimming in the hotel’s rooftop pool spotted the craft and alerted a lifeguard. Hotel security, local police, and journalists from La Presse were summoned, all observing the large silent object emitting brilliant beams of light. Despite the extended observation time, high number of credible witnesses, investigations by local authorities and airport air traffic controllers found no radar activity or known aircraft in the area. It remains one of the most famous and well-documented unidentified flying object (UFO) incidents in Canadian history. The Royal Canadian mint commemorated the event in this unusual $20.00 coin issued in a small run of only 5000 examples. The rectangular shaped coin is curious in its own right, but when you shine invisible ultraviolet light on the reverse side the party starts.
Vivid colours and the outline of the craft become visible and appear to shift direction as the coin is moved. The RCM incorporated and engineered a Fresnel optical effect that alters that way light reflects on the coin giving the light beams artificial movement as the coin is tilted to a shallow observation angle. These coins were quickly snapped up upon initial offering and are now only available on the secondary market. For anyone fascinated by UFOlogy and the paranormal, this coin would make an amazing gift. This is the only example of this coin to ever pass through our estate department. Untouched and still sealed in its original plastic container. It comes complete with its original display box, cardboard outer box and certificate. This one is number 1144 of 5000 issued.
