Burnt orange Breitling SuperOcean 46mm A17320. $4,975.00 CAD. 515-00128
Breitling have a long history dating back to 1884. While most people know them for their large modern pilot watches with integrated stopwatches, slide rule calculators and generally more features than most people could ever hope to use. They also make some interesting more basic utility models with basic time keeping features and little else. The SuperOcean Heritage 46 is a model that draws inspiration from past Breitling models.
At 46mm diameter this is a very large watch and is impossible to overlook especially with its burnt orange dial and matching bezel. There are a few styling details that connect this modern example with historic Breitlings. The simple large exposed crown is very easy to use and operate without the guards seen on almost all contemporary diver watches.
The arrow shaped hour hand was a popular style decades ago along along with the mesh look bracelet. Don’t be fooled though this bracelet has screwed in removable links with a fold over locking buckle just like every other modern Breitling.
The sunburst burnt orange is also somewhat of a throwback colour chose that you may have seen in the 1970s. This is quite an uncommon colour and few show up of the secondary market.
Overall condition is very good, the matching anodized aluminum bezel excellent condition. I love the less is more one way ratcheting bezel that shows only a zero minute triangular index along with simple hash marks at 5 minute intervals. The uncluttered dial is another exercise in simplicity with simple applied stick markers with a printed minute track and small but effective luminous dots to aid time interpretation when the lights go out.
The threaded crown and case back provide a water resistance rating of 200 meters. A low dome lab-grown sapphire crystal with anti-reflective surface coating provide ideal optics to the beautiful sunburst orange dial. The 6:00 o’clock window adds a handy calendar and keeps the rest of the dial in perfect balance and symmetry. Overall excellent condition, showing only minor scuffs and scratches on some of the highly polished surfaces.
We have elected to leave them as testament of careful use over the years. If you’d like these small marks removed, one of our onsite goldsmiths can accomplish this task in less than 10 minutes for no charge.
