18 karat, 11.9 gram, purse pendant with imitation gems, made in Italy. $2,250.00 CAD. 231-00459
From what I hear and see, purses are a thing, and I mean an expensive thing. Looking at the Hermès and Louis Vuitton website, a woman’s hand bag can easily cost $5,000.00. This adorable little pendant would make a great accessory for the lady who appreciates a finely crafted purse and/or jewellery item.
This pendant has been crafted from premium quality 18 karat Italian gold and features multiple components like a hinged handle, large bail, and a function snap-to-close lock. The closure works exactly like the full sized version but on miniature scale. This little purse measures 21.1mm wide. The backside of the pendant showcases an intricate pierced floral pattern.
This filigree detail would allow the release of fragrance from a perfumed strip of fabric inside but would leave little else in terms of practical storage room. Curiously, the Italian manufacturer selected to hand set blue, green, red, and colourless lab-grown imitation stones rather than genuine diamonds and precious gems.
I suspect that when this item was made gold traded at a fraction of its current price, adding high quality genuine gems would have pushed the price point. Now that the price of gold is over $6,000.00 Canadian per ounce, the cost of using real stones wouldn’t increase the price nearly as much, at least in terms of a percentage of total cost. This is a substantial pendant weighing just under 12 grams. It looks like new and shows no wear on any of the moving parts or joints.
We feel the top bail has been added to the handle at some point, it will accommodate a chain or cord of up to 3.6mm diameter. If you remove the bail you can run an almost any size necklace through the handle. This unique pendant can be worn on either side, front or back and is estate priced at $2,550.00 CAD.
