One of the most popular styles of gold necklaces is the “paperclip” link. They’ve been around for a long time but the style really took off about 5 years ago. The basic paperclip design is nothing more than an elongated flat sided oval shaped link. Our latest estate necklace is a similar to a paperclip but this link has balls at opposite ends of every other link. The double balls are soldered together but allow a sliding movement between each link. This modification takes the basic paperclip design to a whole new level. The fit and finish of this necklace is excellent. Made in Italy to the typical high quality standard we except from luxury Italian manufacturers. It measures 10mm wide at the ball sections and 18 inches in overall length. While it is of hollow construction the gauge is quite heavy. The necklace weighs 29.8 grams (close to 1 troy ounce). It is secured by an oversized sturdy lobster clasp. The price of gold has taken a pause since the U.S. elections but the price trend for gold still appears to be going higher. This necklace is in excellent condition and looks unworn. We don’t expect it to last long at the estate price of $3,360.00 CAD. Stock #431-00894

They are estate priced at $1,080.00 in 10-karat rose gold, and $2,700.00 in 18-karat yellow gold. Stock number 431-00753 and 431-00769.
In the jewellery business everyone is talking about the cost of gold. It’s price has increased more than 40% in a year and over 700% in 20 years. The trend is appears to be gaining momentum and with all the current global turmoil who knows where this market will settle at. A well priced gold chain will always cost more than buying investment bullion, but you can enjoy wearing a gold chain and still take comfort in an increasing gold price. This vintage Italian made rectangular cable link chain was crafted by master goldsmiths UnoAerre. It was likely made before the 1970s as the karat stamp/registered trademark spacer link reads only 1 AR which is the mark they used before also stamping the full UnoAerre name in the early 1970s. It weighs in at almost exactly 1/3 of a troy ounce. At today’s gold price (Nov. 9, 2024) this necklace contains $920.00 is just recyclable gold content. The chain measures 2.2mm wide and just over 20 inches in length. It can be worn with or without a pendant by a lady or gentleman. The links, clasp, and connecting rings show no worn areas. Premium 18 karat such as this is very durable. It is far more resistant to chemical attack and corrosion from perspiration, cleaning products compared to less pure 10 or 14 karat. Lower karat chain develop weakened solder joints over many years of continuous use, they ultimately become unsafe to wear and can only be recycled for gold salvage. This UnoAerre shows no areas of concern and should be safe to use for decades. It is estate priced at $1,250.00 CAD. Stock #431-00143.

Gold chains have become our most popular estate item. As the price of gold continues to climb a preowned vintage chain is always going to be your best value. An Italian made example from a high quality manufacturer is the best way to go. It doesn’t get any better then UnoAerre when it comes to quality. Leopoldo Gori and Carlo Zucchi were the founding fathers of the company, they were granted Arezzo’s first provincial registered trademark for the gold industry in 1934; 1AR. Uno is 1 and added to Aerre it means first in Arezzo. The partners had actually set up their jewellery factory in 1926, applying industrial innovations to goldsmithing to make jewellery that was both beautiful and affordable. The 1AR registered makers mark spans the 1930s up until 1971 when the company changed to their long-form UNOAERRE trademark. You’ll still see the 1AR UnoAerre trademark on their contemporary creations. This 18 karat yellow gold classic is a solid construction flattened cable link measuring 3.3mm wide and 21 inches long. It is suitable for women or men and can be worn alone or with any pendant. It displays only the slightest amount of wear on the links. UnoAerre have reenforced every contact point on every link to ensure this necklace will last many decades. You’ll never regret buying quality. Estate priced at $1,700.00 CAD. Stock #431-00183.
Multiple looks to fit a variety of outfits and moods. We see the odd David Yurman piece come through our store but never anything of this quality from the famous American designer. Usually we see a sterling silver ring set with a semi-precious stone or bracelet, but never anything crafted from solid 18 karat gold containing almost 250 round brilliant cut diamonds. These are significant items from Yurman from the their Madison line. The two bracelets and necklace weigh a combined 56.7 grams. They can all be worn separately or clasped together to form an extra long 37 1/2 inch necklace that can easily be doubled up. The bracelets while similar showcase a different number of diamond set centre links, one with 5, the other with 7. The centre of the asymmetrical necklace showcases 7 diamond set oval links set with 78 small diamonds, there are three more diamond set links halfway up the necklace but only on one side. This makes for a truly casual look that pairs well when a single bracelet is added or both. Each of the three components features a simple to use spring loaded master link that operate like a carabiner. The small diamonds are expertly hand set, each using 4 individual beads to secure in place, there are many many hours of labor that have gone into this creation. Each of the master links are signed with the David Yurman logo and copyright. A total of 242 diamonds measuring 1.5mm and 1.2mm diameter are calculated to weigh approximately 1.75 carats in total. They are perfectly matched and grade a conservative VS-GH quality. The smallest of the links measure 4.7mm wide and clasp links are 9.5mm wide. These items are no longer shown on the Yurman website but the do show a similar design Madison necklace, half the length, 5.5mm wide, no diamonds, for $9,350.00. The two bracelets and necklace are being sold as a set of three only, for the estate price of $10,000.00 CAD. Stock #161-00327.

Crafted from top quality 18 karat yellow and white gold, this piece features 46 individually hinged links, forming a flexible and dynamic structure that molds gracefully to the contours of the wearer. Adding a touch of sparkle are 22 round brilliant-cut diamonds, with a combined weight of 2.00 carats with SI-I1-I quality. The meticulous flush-setting of these diamonds not only ensures a sleek and seamless look but also accentuates the brilliance of each stone. The necklace is adorned with a hidden box catch, providing both security and a streamlined aesthetic. Estate price $9,000.00 CAD. Stock #161-00271.
Our little friend has returned, now even more sinister since you last saw him. We recently added a pair of 6.5mm lab grown ruby eyes. The rubies have been bezel set in deep 14 karat white gold bezels resulting in an evil blank stare. He now looks like a cross between the Terminator and a possessed C3PO. A custom pendant isn’t unheard of, but custom made chains are practically never seen. We’ve had a couple come through our estate department over the years, but nothing like this before. What is jaw-dropping (forgive us) about this pendant and chain is the scale of custom work! The extra-long 28.5 inch chain is made up of a link design we have never encountered before, individually linked 6.5mm wide spinal cord inspired cages. Heavily carved for a thick and durable wall gauge ensuring the chain can survive almost any kind of daily wear. The 72.3 gram chain terminates in heavy custom made end caps and an oversized riveted lobster clasp that is somewhat redundant as the chain will easily slip over you head without the need to release the catch. The clasp allows you to wear the chain without the skull or substitute a different pendant you may have. The back bone inspiration could be overlooked as just an unusual design link pattern, but there is no chance of missing the subject matter of the pendant. The human skull depiction looks pretty accurate to me. An empty, expressionless, three dimensional depiction of what anyone can instantly recognize. It has been hand crafted with excellent detail and heavy construction. The large pendant measures 4.9cm tall (without the bail). It has a pierced repeating pattern on the backside that we really don’t know anything about. The pendant is suspended from a large hinged triangular bail that will accommodate a chain up to 13mm in width. On its own the pendant weighs a substantial 60.5 grams. Together the chain and pendant weigh a combined 132.6 grams. The necklace and pendant are accompanied by a November 2020 appraisal stating a retail value of $23,400.00 plus sales tax. In excellent condition showing little evidence of wear, this custom made, skeletal inspired piece of jewellery is estate priced at $10,500.00 CAD for the set. The skull can be purchased separately for $5,299.00 and the chain is available for $5,201.00.00 CAD. Stock #431-00819.
Michael Dawkins is not a designer we are familiar with. Googling around finds his jewellery products mostly on ebay, Etsy, The RealReal, Poshmark etc. Most of what we saw were fashion pieces crafted from sterling silver, using semi-precious stones. While our latest estate necklace bears the Michael Dawkins name, is was created using much more expensive 14 karat yellow gold and good quality cultured pearls. Perhaps this vintage piece was an early attempt to get into the more upscale end of the market that didn’t quite work out as planned. Each of the semi baroque akoya pearls are of good quality measuring 7.5 to 8.0mm diameter. The yellow gold necklace measures 16 1/2 inches long and is secured by a sighed barrel clasp. It is easy to use as the plunger section snaps into the barrel without alignment. Its swivel action means the necklace can roll without getting twisted. This is a substantial piece weighing in at 34.4 grams. When you factor out the weight of the pearls (approximately 0.7 grams each), the 14 karat gold weighs around 24 grams. The necklace is in like new condition showing little to no wear, the pearls display a thick coating of fine grain nacre with creamy white luster. This necklace is estate priced at $2,000.00 CAD. Calculating the value of jewellery can be simple or very complex. It’s easy to figure out the cost of the components, but it is often very difficult to determine the finished price once all the manufacturing costs are takin into consideration. When it comes to a high end designer it is even more complicated. The value the brand brings to the equation needs to be considered and respected. Certainly, a well crafted generic Italian made, gold necklace can be the same quality as what you’d find at a store like Tiffany or Cartier, but it’s going to cost you a lot more to buy the brand name example. Buying jewellery isn’t quite the same as buying other products simply based on the size, weight, volume etc. This diamond choker necklace was crafted the the late American jewellery designer Scott Kay. He passed away after a heart attack in 2016 at the age of 57. In 30 years as head of the brand that bears his name, he created many beautiful pieces and created a small jewellery empire with retail agent partners across North America. Scott Kay was a passionate designer and a pioneer in the use of alternative metals like cobalt and palladium. He has also been partially credited for the resurgence in popularity of platinum jewellery. We were Scott Kay agents for a number of years before his death. His creations where some of our highest quality engagement and wedding rings. We’re not sure if the Scott Kay brand will ever be back, the website hasn’t been active for quite a while now. We do see some of his legacy creations from time to time, mostly engagement and wedding rings. Our latest estate piece is this 16-inch yellow gold Scott Kay diamond choker. The weaved wire design measures 6mm diameter and just a touch over 16 inches in total length. The subtle centrepiece is a white gold channel setting containing 8 round brilliant cut diamonds equaling 1/4 carat of high quality VS-GH diamonds. This necklace poses a pricing challenge. How do we accurately evaluate a rare example from a designer brand that is no longer active in the industry? What we know is the cost of gold in this 14 karat 53 gram creation is $3,534.00 (recyclable value as of Sept. 23, 2024) and the wholesale cost of the 8 diamonds is around $300.00. Turning the components into a finished piece of high quality jewellery of Scott Kay’s standards would cost at least another $1,400.00. What we have a hard time saying is how much markup/margin Scott Kay would factor into the costs to make a profit and stay in business. As former Scott Kay agent, I’m confident saying a necklace like this would have a retail price of over $10,000.00 today. The back of the clasp appears to be personally signed by Scott Kay beside the SKD copyrighted logo and karat stamp. There is also a Dremel engraved unique serial number under Scott’s signature. Not only is this necklace a piece of designer history, it is a very attractive jewellery item. Like new condition and estate priced under its wholesale replacement cost at $5,000.00 CAD.
Somebody went and put our favorite underdog diamond cut into a tennis necklace; baguettes! And they used them the way they were designed to be used, in undulating ribbons of diamonds, unlike anything the fabric industry has ever achieved. This glimmering ribbon is edged with delicate stitching of petite round brilliant cut diamonds. The 366 round diamonds are all of SI-I1-GH quality, their kaleidoscope of sparkle creates the perfect contrast to the baguettes. Set tightly against each other the 147 tapered and graduated baguettes shimmer brightly in time to the wearer’s breath. They’ve been gifted with high VS-SI-FG quality to keep them free of eye-visible inclusions that would mar their intensity. The necklace measures 16 inches long and has been fabricated from 32.5 grams of brightly rhodium plated solid 18 karat white gold. Its back half was left plain, to focus its almost 10.00 carats total diamond weight across the throat. The necklace is secured with a hidden box catch and two additional safety locks for peace of mind during wear. In like-new unworn condition, the necklace is accompanied by an AGL Appraisal stating an estimated retail replacement value of $29,200.00 CAD. We feel a more competitive replacement value would be around 50% less at $14,575.00 CAD, and our estate price for this beautiful necklace is $10,200.00 CAD. Stock #161-00181.
It’s hollow but that doesn’t mean it’s been cheaply made. This 9.2mm Cuban link still weighs in at a significant 54.9 grams. At 28 inches in total length there is enough length to cut a section out and make a matching bracelet. The links are heavy enough gauge to resist almost any impact. It is in original condition showing only scuffs and scratches but no dents. We can easily refinish and polish it to look like new but we’d end up leaving around 1 gram of gold on the buffing wheel. Anytime you polish away scratches and blemishes, a small amount of gold is inevitably removed from the item. We save all our polishing dust and every few years it gets recycled to recover the gold particles trapped within. The necklace is secured by a large lobster type clasp with a sturdy spring loaded release. We can polish it up to look like new the same day or leave it in original condition. This long 10 karat yellow gold Cuban link necklace is estate priced at $4,500.00 CAD. Stock #431-00683.
A heavy snake chain is a great partner to any pendant style, thanks to its sleek understated design. This one measures a medium 1.7mm diameter by 24 inches long, making it an appropriate choice for men or women. The only consideration with snake chains is that they can’t be creased. Stored improperly or worn carelessly they will kink and be damaged. Worn mindfully this 11 gram 14 karat yellow gold chain will last a long time. Estate price $910.00 CAD. Stock #431-00284
Heavy white gold chain isn’t something we see much of around here. Many people opt for inexpensive sterling silver chain when is comes to heavier weights. A brand new, high quality, heavy weight sterling silver chain can be had for around $4.00 per gram, while the same thing in 10 karat white gold is going to run you at least $60.00 per gram. White gold is actually not that white, it is usually rhodium plated to give it a whiter look. Our latest estate chain is this 25 inch white gold curb link chain. It has been lightly polished enough that the rhodium plating on the high sections has been removed leaving the natural 10 karat “off” white gold colour. There is still some of the original rhodium plating on the low sections near where the links are connected. The 8.1mm wide necklace remains in excellent condition showing no thin or worn sections. It weighs 40.3 grams and is secured by a large spring loaded lobster clasp. This high quality Italian made chain could be worn by a man or woman. It’s versatile length is suitable over a shirt or discreetly hidden underneath. It is estate priced at $2,400.00 CAD. Stock #431-00520
High quality estate jewellery is always a pleasure to showcase. When it is an admired brand, a popular design, and very well priced, we know we are going to make someone happy. The diamond station necklace has been favorite style for many years. We’ve seen cheap ones made from sterling silver with cubic zirconia and light weight examples containing poor quality diamonds. Roberto Coin is a world famous brand that don’t cut corners when it comes to quality. Premium 18 karat yellow gold, Italian construction, bright SI1-G or better diamonds are what makes this “Diamonds by the Inch” necklace special. This is a current item as shown of the Roberto Coin website where it is priced at $4,060.00 CAD. Their signature lab-grown ruby hand set in the karat flag along with the 1226 VI stamp mark this one as a genuine Roberto Coin original. Imitations will lack these features, or may have similar but are poorly set and badly stamped details. Superior fit and finish, using heavy gauge construction are also what you’d expect from an original. The necklace measures 16 inches total length, is in perfect condition, and shows no areas of wear. It is secured by a good sized, sturdy lobster clasp stamped 750 (75% purity 18 karat gold). This classic Roberto Coin diamond necklace is estate priced at $2,000.00 CAD. Stock #161-00324.
We sell a lot of estate chain necklaces and for good reason. Our estate chains are almost always in like new condition and more than competitively priced. Italian chain manufacturers are very efficient and can produce beautiful jewellery at reasonable prices. If you’re buying a brand new, high quality imported gold chain like this one, expect to pay 2 to 3 times the actual gold value for it. This figure allows for the added cost of fine silver alloy, labour costs, importation duties, and a little left over for manufacturer and retail profit. The problem is very few retail stores will tell you what the chain you are considering weighs, making it impossible to determine whether you are getting good value. Bill Le Boeuf Jewellers ALWAYS provides the important details to demonstrate our excellent value. Our latest Italian necklace measures 30 inches long and was crafted from premium 18 karat yellow gold, with a finished weight of 19.2 grams. As of today (Aug. 21, 2024), the gold content alone in this chain is worth $1,581.00. If you have a thinner frame the extra long length gives you the option to wear it as a double. The large oval link design allows the spring-ring clasp to be fastened in any link, giving you the ability to wear at any length you choose. Each of the 4.1mm wide, flattened links showcase highly polished edges and a fine milgrain detail on the front and back sides. The textured links finish show off the rich 18 karat yellow gold colour very well. If you shop around the chain details of 18 karat, Italian made, and 19.2 grams, I think you’ll get replacement quotes of between $3,000.00 to $4,400.00. This like new condition, estate necklace is priced below its wholesale replacement cost at $2,200.00 CAD. Stock #431-00843.
This piece centers around either the Tree of Life or a representation of Mother Earth; leaning towards the latter considering the female figure hidden in the trunk. She’s kneeling on an earthy reddish-brown crystal mass that twinkles brightly when moved. Her eyes are bright green emeralds and her expansive branches are decorated with rubies, emeralds, sapphires, and diamonds. At the heart of the tree-top is a 1.50 carat round brilliant cut diamond of I1 clarity and fancy brown hue, mirroring the colour of the crystal mass. What really catches the eye is the 5.50 carat oval tanzanite of the intense blueberry colour the gem is prized for. Judging from its position at the foot of this mythical tree I would wager it’s a representation of some important life-spring or pool. The piece can be worn as a brooch or is accompanied by a 34 1/2 inch long 4.4mm wide King’s link chain that clasps onto two hidden rings. The piece itself spans 2.51 inches long by 2.7 inches tall and is accompanied by a Harold Weinstein LTD. appraisal stating an estimated value of $25,000.00 CAD. Our estate price for this one-of-a-kind handmade piece is $10,500.00 CAD. Stock #231-00181.
When high quality and a great price come together, you’re getting true value. Nobody does it better than the Italians when it comes to high quality jewellery, and UnoAerre are among the best. For close to 100 years they’ve set the bar for style and standards that are second to none. Since 1958 Bill Le Boeuf Jewellers has been the value leader in jewellery, diamonds and watches. Our latest estate piece illustrates our tradition of value and quality for luxury jewellery. This UnoAerre hollow necklace measures 17 inches in total length and tapers from 14.6mm in the centre to 8.0mm at the ends. Don’t let the hollow construction fool you, this is a sturdy piece, weighing in at 43.6 grams (1.4 troy ounces). It is secured by a heavy heavy, rivetted lobster clasp. The price of gold continues to climb as does the value of all gold jewellery. The gold content alone in this necklace amounts to $3,570.00 (as of Aug. 12, 2024). There are no dents, dings, or any other signs of wear on the necklace. The flexible links contour to any neckline. This Italian made estate necklace is estate priced below is wholesale replacement cost at $4,557.00 CAD. Stock #431-00834
As the late comedian, Mitch Hedberg put it, in one of his deadpan nonsequiturs, “rice is great when you’re hungry and want 2000 of something”. This rice link bracelet and necklace set is about 1740 short of that goal. It more than makes up for the deficit consisting, as it does, of 46.9 grams of 18 karat yellow gold. The puffy rice grains and organized by threes and hinged to their neighbors on either side, allowing for controlled movement to ensure they sit flat during wear. They span 8.6mm with the necklace measuring 16 1/4 inches and the bracelet measuring 7 3/4 inches. Each features a hidden box catch with springy white gold tongues and added safety locks. Heavy gauge hollow construction and in perfect condition. Estate price for the set only $5,250.00 CAD. Stock #431-00206 e14022.
Don’t let the 18 inch length deceive you, this statement necklace fits like a 16 or 17 inch length thanks to its oversized links. The massive rolo links each measure 11mm in diameter by 3.9mm wide and are of course hollow constructed. Despite that the chain still weighs in at an impressive 30.2 grams of rich 14 karat yellow gold, as a testament of its high quality Italian manufacturing. The chain ends in a decorative C clasp that could really be worn at the front or side of the neck as a feature. The chain does exhibit some minor dings on several links but they are only visible with careful up close inspection. Estate price $3,145.00 CAD. Stock #431-00676.
If there was ever any doubt that the Italians aren’t the world’s best when it comes to manufacturing gold chains, this necklace should change your mind. This intricate retro creation is around 30 years old but remains in excellent condition. The delicate necklace is an exercise in fine detail executed with precise assembly. The smooth taper begins in the centre where the flat necklace measures 10.0mm wide and very gradually tapers to 6.1mm at the clasp. The articulated flat link sections are assembled so tightly and finished so precisely that they practically blend with their neighbors looking like an uninterrupted ribbon of liquid gold. The flexible nature of the 16-inch necklace means it will adjust to every contour of your neck. This silky smooth creation was crafted from 14 karat yellow and weighs a substantial 44.8 grams. The plunger tongue is made from white gold because white gold is harder, and makes a more secure spring when it locks into the box section of the clasp. For an extra level of security, a supplementary side safety catch snaps tightly closed over the ball lock. Retro and vintage styles like this in yellow gold are back. With the price of gold well over $3,000.00 CAD per ounce, something like this would easily cost $7,000.00 or more to replace. The retro classic in like new condition is estate priced at just $4,000.00 CAD. Stock #431-00429.
Gucci link necklace measuring 6.3mm wide and 20 plus inches in overall length (20 1/2″). The puffed links are manufactured from heavy gauge hollow 10 karat gold connected by oval shaped solid links. The chain is in link new condition showing little to no wear in any of the links. It is secured by an easy to use oversized lobster clasp that is connected to the chain by a soldered shut jump-ring. Many times the loop that connects the clasp to the chain is left unsoldered because this final stage of manufacturing needs to be done by hand. It is nice to see this ring was soldered shut for some added security. The necklace weighs 17.5 grams and is estate priced at $1,120.00 CAD. Stock #431-00444.
In the past 10 years, we’ve only had the opportunity to showcase 3 natural alexandrite pieces in our estate department; an apt example of the rarity of one of the world’s most coveted gems! Alexandrite was something out of a fairy tale when it was discovered in the mountains of Russia in 1830. A gem that changes colour as it passes from sunlight into candlelight, as if responding to the setting of the sun. In daylight, the original Russian gems were bright emerald green and in incandescent light, they went red like rubies. Modern examples from Brazil, East Africa, and Sri Lanka have supplemented the extinct Russian sources and show a variety of blue/greens and purple/reds. When it was originally discovered, it was named for the soon-to-be Tzar of Russian Alexander II, a perfect tribute as the gem’s colours mirrored the national military colours at the time. The example we have today features 9 natural Brazilian alexandrites that have been oval mixed-cut to best showcase their colours. The combined 2.00 carats display a very strong colour change from bluish-green (almost a peacock green) to purplish-red. They display the best colour change we’ve ever seen in Brazilian material. The necklace brackets the gems with trios of channel set I1-H round brilliant cut diamonds. Their addition of 0.75 carats total weight of sparkle helps bring attention to the natural fire of alexandrite, which displays purple, pink, and red flashes when showing blue-green body colour. The neckpiece itself is made from 14 karat yellow gold and measures close to 20 inches long with a sturdy white gold box catch and additional safety lock. The piece came with its original UGL certificate from New York and a November 2021 appraisal from Harold Weinstein LTD. in Toronto, both displaying slightly more optimistic assessments of the piece than we settled for. The UGL cert from 2010 states a replacement value of $9,000.00 USD and the Harold Weinstein document states a value of $21,000.00. We feel a competitive price in Canadian dollars is $12,000.00 and our estate price for the like-new necklace is $8,400.00 CAD. Stock #e14552 231-00114.
This double strand necklace does the layering for you, which is good as it’s hard to imagine wearing this show-stealing piece with anything else. It’s hard to tell from static photos but in person the 48 gold disks that decorate this chain behave like rippling water on a sunny day. Their unique water-like surfaces dazzle like a calm lake caught in a sudden gust of wind. Each is only 7.15mm wide but they certainly make an impression! The 18 inch necklace is made from 6.9 grams of 14K yellow gold and is estate priced for $770.00 CAD. Stock #431-00366
Thankfully traditional Japanese Geisha has an extremely distinct hairstyle or we wouldn’t know how to begin telling the story of this handmade necklace. The statement necklace begins with a 24.3mm long by 20.9mm carved bust of a Geisha in the traditional Nihonga style you see on classical Japanese scroll paintings. Except of course that her eyes are diamonds. The pair of well-matched round brilliant cut diamonds peer out of the warm 14 karat yellow gold, creating a striking contrast. Hanging from this bust is a 25.5mm long by 26mm heart topped with a 0.92 carat round brilliant cut diamond of I1-HI quality. That diamond has undergone a treatment called laser drilling, a permanent clarity enhancement employed to improve the overall appearance of a diamond. A microscopic laser beam is used to drill through the diamond to reach a dark inclusion, acid is then forced into that hole, burning away the inclusion and leaving a colourless empty cavity in its place. The laser drill hole can be seen in this photomicrograph reaching a crystal inclusion. The real story of this piece is the almost shield-shaped octagonal kunzite at the center of the heart. The rarely encountered gem was discovered in the very early 1900s and named for Tiffany’s legendary gemologist and gem buyer George Frederick Kunz. The gem is prized for its pastel pink colour which features the faintest hint of lilac purple. The estimated 22 carat kunzite (we feel the actual weight is closer to 18 carats) features two rows of eye-visible reflective inclusions that run at almost a 90-degree angle to the gem’s crown, making them less visible head-on and more visible viewed from the side. The high-polished gold sheet that makes up the heart has been equipped with a tapered wire gallery to ensure it sits properly during wear. Attached to the pendant is a 1.9mm wide snake chain measuring almost 30 inches long. It comes equipped with a sturdy lobster clasp but you’ll hardly need to use it as the necklace slips easily over the head. The entire 14 karat piece weighs in at 36.2 grams and is accompanied by a Harold Weinstein LTD. appraisal stating an estimated value of $13,500.00. Our estate price for this one-of-a-kind art piece is estate priced for $6,600.00 CAD. Stock #231-00180.
This neckpiece is a stunning homage to the Art Nouveau movement of the late 1800s. The goldsmith who crafted it used traditional metalsmithing techniques to handmake each individual component. All hollow chains are not created equal, be sure when you’re shopping around for one that you’re taking gram weight, link diameter, and overall length into account. Some of the hollow chains you’ll encounter are so delicate they can’t even survive a month of regular wear before denting or stretching. This hollow chain is not one of those. For comparison shopping purposes it measures 5.5mm wide by 24 inches long and weighs in at an impressive 26 grams. This showy 10 karat rope chain doesn’t need to be worn with any great degree of caution and can be worn 24/7. Keep it clean and it will last a lifetime! Estate priced at $1,440.00 CAD. Stock #431-00326.
This almost tips out of station chain territory and into a fancy link chain as the spaces between the diamonds only measure 8.2mm. The necklace is also a bit too thoughtful for a station chain, adding decorative graduated links that create a stepped transition from rolo chain to bezels. A normal station chain attaches directly to the bezel, creating abrupt stops between the chain and bezels. The 17-inch chain features an impressive 35 I1-J round brilliant cut diamonds that come together for a total weight of 1.00 carat. The 14 karat white gold necklace is secured by a medium lobster clasp and is estate priced at $1,400.00 CAD. Stock #161-00176.
FOPE has an almost century-long history of high-quality jewellery manufacturing behind its name. The brand began in 1929 as a small jewellery manufacturing shop with 20 employees. They expanded multiple times over the decades, and in the 1980s developed a specialized gold mesh that would become the iconic feature of their brand. The Novecento mesh is made from an interlocking connection of the individual links that make up the necklace and bracelet we are featuring today. The set is certainly interesting for more reasons than its links, the station-style pieces feature freely swinging diamond studded drops. The 7.5-inch long bracelet spaces its 5 diamonds evenly across the wrist and the 16.5 inch long necklace focuses its 7 diamonds across the collarbone. The petite VS-FG round brilliant cut diamonds equal 0.15 carats together. Both the chain and bracelet are equipped with a stylized lobster clasp stamped proudly with its FOPE origins. Being made by one of Italy’s most luxurious manufacturers pretty much ensures the pieces would be made from top-quality 18 karat white gold. Both pieces are in like-new condition, retaining their original chromy white rhodium finishes. They are accompanied by their original FOPE cloth lines box. The estate price for the set only is $3,500.00 CAD. Stock #161-00147
Omega necklaces make a very bold statement with their wide dome cross-section that looks like a shiny ribbon of gold around your neck. They are usually seen in shorter lengths to highlight a pendant or are simply worn alone. The shorter lengths often encountered are usually 16 to 17 inches long. The semi-flexible link design and short length mean the pendant sits just below the collar bones. This 4.0mm wide example gives you the added benefit of being yellow on one side and white on the other. It’s two necklaces in one, able to showcase a variety of pendants. 14-karat gold construction except for the 10-karat lobster catch that must have been replaced at some point. The 26.1-gram necklace is in excellent like new condition. A little extra care was taken when this one was manufactured due to the hinged chain ends. The hinged ends allow a little more flexibility and at the same time make the piece far more durable. Estate priced at $3,120.00 CAD. Stock #431-00559 e9837.

Measuring a narrow 2.7mm by 24 inches long the chain is ready for any wearer. The 21.8 grams of solid 18 karat yellow gold that makes up this chain is bolstered by its mega lobster clasp that is equally function and a feature to display. The clasp measures 19.5mm long by 9.1mm and accompanied by extra-large jump ring ends. The necklace is in like new condition showing zero wear on any of the connecting rings. Blushing pearls are a wonderful alternative to the standard white/cream strands. Firstly, they don’t feel like your grandmother’s pearls, their colour automatically lends a youthful vibe and less traditional, playful feel. The soft rosé tones also wear nicer on most skin tones, creating a more subtle appearance. These 20 1/2 inch and 23-inch strands came in as a single-tiered necklace in need of restringing. We opted for two separate strands as a single strand is more universal than a tiered double strand, working equally well with a pair of jeans and a cardigan or a cocktail dress. Both strands feature new 14 karat white gold clasps and are made from 6.5mm Akoya saltwater cultured pearls, proudly displaying their bright luster. Estate price for the newly strung strands $560.00 CAD and $595.00 CAD. Stock numbers e13975 and e13976.

Wait long enough and everything will eventually come back in style. Well, 80 years seems long enough, doesn’t it? This fancy link chain was originally designed to span a gentleman’s waistcoat with a decorative fob catch for clasping onto the bow of a pocket watch. Now that oversized clasp is simply a statement piece that easily grasps an amulet or heavy pendant for a dramatic finish. At 66 inches long the woven-link chain can be layered in several ways making it as versatile as your imagination. The 5.6mm wide links are made from a double link of superhard concave sheet gold, and tiny wirework globes finished in a matte ribbed pattern. The chain is made from 84.8 grams of warm 14-karat yellow gold and retains a soft patina from its near-century of life. The estate price for this like-new chain is $6,650.00 CAD. Stock #431-00503
The Japanese are the undisputed champions of the pearl industry, they produce some of the highest quality pearls on the market. A quick tip for judging pearl quality is to look at how reflective a pearl’s surface is. The highest quality nacre will reflect the world around it like a tiny fuzzy convex mirror. The sharper the reflections, the thicker the nacre, the longer the pearl was grown, and the higher it’s quality. The next thing you want to check for is blemishes on the surface of the pearls, a couple of natural dimples and bumps here or there is to be expected, but the more you encounter the lower the value of the strand. This strand of Japanese pearls is flapper girl worthy measuring 34 inches long and displays goog reflections you’d expect of the pearl masters. The 7.5 – 7.9mm pearls do display a bit of dimpling and bumps on their surface but they are well-matched to each other. The strand is a softly blush colour and has been appropriately equipped with a 14 karat yellow gold heart-shaped catch. Estate price $1,750.00 CAD. Stock #e14528
The nature of rope chains allows them to patina over time in a way that other chains do not. Only their outermost edges make contact with the skin, keeping them in their high polished state. The inner part of the weave darkens over time adding depth and richness to the rope. This 4.4mm wide by 20-inch long rope chain shows the beginning of that patina and features sturdy end caps and a large lobster clasp. Estate price $960.00 CAD. Stock E14485 #431-00250.
The omega chain was meant to be the final word on necklaces, the ultimate symbol of luxury. Encircling the neck with a uniform band of gold, the specialized link was made to mimic solid gold. Our Italian-made omega chain measures 4mm wide by 17 inches long, weighs a generous 26.6 grams, and features a gentle dome that enhances its strength. The chain can be worn on its own or with a statement pendant. Estate price $1,820.00 CAD. Stock #e14269.
We buy gold because it is rare, precious, and beautiful. In North America we tend to water it down by adding silver and other alloys diluting it to 10 karat or 14 karat. Adding other metals can make gold a little bit harder but not necessarily more durable. The lower the karat the lower the price is likely the reason we tend to produce mostly 10 and 14 karat in North America. Did you know there is more fine silver in 10 karat gold than actual gold? Our estate selection of 22 karat is about as close as you can get to pure gold. The rich warm colour of 22 karat is the closest to pure gold that you’re likely going to see in jewellery. 22 karat is 91.6% pure gold with just a touch of alloy to harden it up enough for use as jewellery. At today’s gold price ($2,730.00 per ounce CAD) each gram of 22 karat contains over $80.00 in simply recyclable gold content value. Making jewellery takes time and highly skilled labor that adds cost. Duties, packaging, alloy, shipping, manufacturer and retail markups add cost to the basic cost of raw pure gold. For 6 days only we are offering all our 22 karat at only $100.00 PER GRAM, regardless of the product or design. Plain wedding bands to intricately stone set bracelets; everything is only $100.00 per gram. This represents waaaaaaaay under its wholesale replacement cost. This sale will promptly end at the close of business on November 30th 2023.

This captivating piece features a capped Etruscan chain, a design rooted in ancient craftsmanship, leading to a focal point adorned with a trio of bezel-set gems. At the heart of this ensemble is a natural 0.43 carat deep royal blue sapphire, well cut to throw as much light as the sturdy bezel setting allows. Flanking it are two meticulously matched round brilliant cut diamonds, each boasting SI2-G quality, and combining for a total of 0.33 carats. The 18 inch necklace, meticulously crafted from 14 karat white gold, retains its original chromy white rhodium finish, as a testament to its condition. Weighing a graceful 13 grams, this piece is a harmonious blend of antiquity and modern elegance. Estate price $1,820.00 CAD. Stock #231-00264.

Not all hollow jewellery in made the same. There are manufactures out there producing ultra light weight hollow jewellery for the sole purpose of making the item as cheap as possible, without any consideration of quality or longevity. We have recently encountered earring posts on studs that were actually hollow. While our latest estate chain is indeed hollow, it still was built to last for many decades. The heavy gauge construction still weighs in at a substantial 50.9 grams. No doubt money was saved producing it with a hollow core but that certainly wasn’t the main consideration. The links were formed from premium 18 karat gold of rich colour with a beautiful finish that the Italians are famous for. It comes with a large lobster that looks like new; the chain ends and each of the 8.1mm wide links display no signs wear either. 24 to 26 inches is the most popular length for men’s chains. This one is 24 1/2 inches in long giving it the perfect look for most gent’s tastes. The necklace could also be appropriate for the woman who likes the longer look to wear overtop a blouse. We could remove a section and easily turn it into a matching bracelet for you. We always like to point out the fact the price of gold is still on the rise. At the current price of gold ($3,800.00 per ounce CAD Oct. 28, 2024) this chain contains over $4,650.00 is just the recyclable gold content it contains. If you tried to purchase something like this new, expect to see prices approaching $12,000.00. This like new chain is estate priced at $7,200.00 CAD. Stock #431-00674.

The price of gold has eased a little bit from its highs of over $2,700.00 per ounce Canadian to around $2,500.00. Is now the time to invest in some gold? I wish I could give you some good advice in that capacity but here is a way to get a great piece of jewellery and make a passive investment in gold too. Even with gold prices off their highs this item still contains close to $2,100.00 in simply the gold content. There is also a little silver alloy that adds additional value. This 6mm wide classic Figaro link chain measures over 21 1/2 inches. It is of solid construction and is in excellent condition, showing no wear in any of the joints. It is secured by a sturdy spring loaded lobster clasp. It could be worn by a man or a woman and worn with or without a pendant. Estate priced at $3,060.00 CAD. Stock #431-00139.

Our estate gold chains continue to be a popular gift and self-purchase item for both men and women. We have many more in stock than what you see showcased on our website. Always in new or like new condition and always priced with full transparency. Transparency to us means we let you know every aspect necessary to determine the excellent value we offer with each and every one. It is very difficult to find out the weight from most online retailers. They are great at taking pretty pictures with enticing descriptions but they almost always leave out the very important detail in the weight. Quality and weight are pretty much all you need to know when it comes to determining who offers the best value. Origin and manufacturer also play role in value but karat and weight are the most important characteristics. I did a little online surfing before writing this post. After contacting a popular online jewellery vendor I found out they sell a very similar 14 karat square Franco chain for $193.50 per gram. We only found out what it weighed after directly contacting them, they too omitted the simple detail of the weight from their description. Our 5.4mm x 4.1mm Franco 23 inch necklace is just $92.45 per gram. It appears to be in new condition. There is no evidence of any use, it retains the bright factory applied polish on the bright cut flat surfaces. While it is of hollow construction it is still quite substantial at 26.6 grams. The 23-inch length is suitable for a man or women. It is an excellent choice to be worn with or without a pendant. This is a popular style and we don’t expect it to last too long at the estate price of $2,450.00 CAD. Stock 431-00680.

A rope chain and a diamond-cut rope chain are two very different things. Both are designed to be worn on their own as heavy statement pieces. Both come in the same offerings of different lengths and thicknesses and a variety of solid and hollow options. But a rope chain has a soft understated appearance whereas a diamond-cut rope is boldly faceted and mirror-finished to make it sparkle and shine even when it’s laying still. Our example is 24 inches long by 3.25mm wide but most importantly it’s solid, weighing in at a hefty 27.5 grams of top-quality 18-karat yellow gold. The chain is finished with rounded end caps and an easy-to-fasten lobster clasp. The estate price for the like-new chain is $3,360.00 CAD. Stock #431-00530.

Silky smooth and super stylish. Omega style necklaces have been around for a long time and still look great. The seamless design can be worn alone or can be used to hold any substantial pendant. Once again the Italians prove that they are the industry leaders when it comes to high quality necklace/chain manufacturing. The low dome, high polish finish is perfect. The capped links are extremely tight showing no gaps. With a finished weight of 26.5 grams in beautiful traditional yellow gold and a width of 4.0mm the tangible sense of quality is very apparent. A plunger type clasp has been assembled from white gold. White gold has superior “spring” and hardness characteristics making it the logical choice for a clasp. A supplementary side safety for that extra level of security is also there and snaps easily shut every time. The 18 inch length should fit almost any lady. Excellent condition, showing no signs of wear and tear. Only a high temperature ultrasonic cleaning was necessary to prepare it for display in our estate department. If you’d like a complimentary fine polish and refinishing, one of our onsite goldsmiths can have this accomplished while you wait. Estate price $2,450.00 CAD. Stock #e11386.

In many Commonwealth countries, 9 karat gold (37.5% pure) is a legally recognized standard. In Canada, most of the gold we commonly see is slightly purer 10 karat. This unique link necklace is a combination nautical/cable link and I’ve never seen one like it before. The 32-inch length allows use as a single strand that can fir over even the bulkiest sweater or doubled up against the skin. This is a quality imported item from our favorite Italian chain manufacturer, UnnoAerre. They’ve been making high quality gold chains and jewellery since 1926 and are still a preferred supplier of Bill Le Boeuf Jewellers. This necklace is in like new condition and estate priced at $560.00 CAD. Stock #331-00276.

Diamond cutting doesn’t mean a piece has been cut with a diamond blade, it means that a piece has been faceted to a very high mirror finish, creating a diamond-like sparkle. On a round chain link like this rope, the effect is even more impressive as the chain rolls freely during wear. The 3.5mm link is showy for more reasons than its brilliant finish, it has been solidly constructed from 21.4 grams of 14 karat yellow gold. The 20-inch-long chain is in like-new condition and comes equipped with a decorative plunger-style clasp with an additional safety lock. Estate price $1,925.00 CAD. Stock #431-00414.

Pretty necklaces are some of our top selling estate items and you keep asking for them, so here is another to consider. The 10 karat yellow gold chain measures just a bit over 15 1/2 inches. The shorter length makes it more suited for someone with a thin neck. The fancy design features eight navette shaped filigree links (6mm wide) connected by sections of rolo style chain. Like new condition with a total weight of just over 4 grams. If you are looking for a more basic design, we have dozens of traditional styles in different lengths. A station link like this would look great with a lacey summer top. This one is estate priced at just $288.00 CAD. Stock #431-00814.

Anyone else spend part of their lockdown watching the Our Planet series? Remember that scene with the arctic fox jumping straight up into the air and swan diving into the snow after burrowing voles? This foxtail chain is more closely related to the red fox than the arctic with its warm yellow/orange hues. The intricately woven link measures 1.7mm wide by 24 inches long and certainly mimics the sheen of a foxes glossy coat. The 9.2 gram chain is premium 18 karat yellow gold and of course, Italian made. The estate price is $1,050.00 CAD. Stock #431-00331.

Woven links are a fantastic way to get volume while maintaining durability. By weaving together smaller solid links the chain ends up having substantial body without the extreme cost of a single solid link or the inherent weakness of hollow links. This 5.0mm wide King’s link chain is made up of high polished round links alternating with 4 interlocking twisted links. Measuring 30 inches long you can easily imagine the piece as a modern livery collar if it were partnered with the right medallion. The chain certainly feels regal, weighing in at 62.6 grams in 10 karat yellow gold. It’s fastened with an oversized spring-ring catch and estate priced for $3,640.00 CAD. Stock #431-00283.

Herringbone chains are ideal for braiding as the flat link stays wherever you put it, meaning it will keep a tight and even braid as long as it’s worn and stored carefully. Being a compact link it doesn’t have much flexibility for bending, if kinked or bent beyond its capacity the chain will never be the same. But with care, this 10 karat yellow gold braided necklace can last a lifetime. Measuring 3.5mm wide by 18 inches long this softly twinkling necklace is a statement all by itself. Estate price $245.00 CAD. Stock #431-00270.

The best partner for a statement pendant is an omega chain! The stiff collar automatically elevates anything it carries for the eye-catching silhouette it creates. Tri-colour never looked as subtle as it does in this 17 inch long necklace. Perhaps because it’s been made from 18 karat gold, the rich yellow over powering the two accent colours. Though even the rose and white seem subdued, patterned in a matte dragon scale. The trio leaves just a vague impression of their differences, drawing the viewer in to investigate. Being Italian made the clasp is an over sized statement in white and yellow gold, with sturdy end caps for added longevity. Though hollow the necklace is in great shape and weighs 22.4 grams. Estate price $2,725.00 CAD. Stock #431-00205 e11040.

At 36 inches long by 11.5mm wide this chain may bring on a mild urge to wander dark halls warning Scrooges to change their ways (it certainly has the musical clinking for the job!), but wearing this Italian-made masterpiece certainly won’t feel like a curse! Its hollow nature brings it to a 73.5 gram weight that is very comfortable. The statement chain consists of high polished oval links partnered with interlocking Florentine textured double links and ends in a fixed spring ring catch. Wear it doubled up or as a single long necklace. This rich hue 18 karat yellow gold chain is in near-new condition showing only a couple of minor dings on a couple of polished links. Estate price $7,140.00 CAD. Stock #431-00422.

Mixed-link chunky statement chains are replacing the persistent trend of tiny layered necklaces. The style (see Jennifer Aniston on The Morning Show) only requires one statement necklace added to your usual layering. This 8mm necklace is certainly a versatile show-stealer for any layered look. Building off of the twisting nature of a rope chain the necklace manages to feel subtle despite its size; inviting closer inspection. The combination of high polished rose gold and heavily matte-finished yellow gold creates a double-layered two-tone effect. Being made from top quality 18 karat gold it is no wonder that the necklace would be made hollow. But the fact that it still weighs in at 53.2 grams is proof enough of its quality. The 8mm wide, 18-inch necklace ends in a decorative oversized clasp that is more a design feature than a functional tool. Estate price $5,500.00 CAD. Stock #e14508 431-00273

The variety of chain styles we encounter seem almost endless. We have never seen this particular design and don’t even know what to call it. Even trying to describe it is going to be a challenge. What we can tell you is it measures almost 3.2mm in diameter and consists of interlocking 4 segment links, with a diamond cut faceted pattern. It has been further enhanced with white rhodium giving it a sparkle like it was set with thousands of tiny diamonds. The round profile means it will never look twisted. It is quite substantial feeling with a substantial finished weight of 27.4 grams. At 24 inches long it will fit over most heads without the need to undo the large lobster clasp. The chain is suitable for either a gentleman or a lady, and can be worn with or without a pendant. It is in perfect condition and was only worn a few times according to the original owner. The trouble with most flat chain is they are made too flimsy and easily kink. Once they are creased you can’t repair them without seeing where they were damaged. The repaired section also becomes stiff at the locating. In this world of higher and higher gold prices, chances are you’ll not see many flat chains like this one that weighs a substantial 14.9 grams. You’ll also not likely see one crafted from premium 18 karat gold either. Estate jewellery like this offers a great way to get higher quality at a waaaaaaay lower price. At only $129.19 per gram this chain might be one of the best values around. New chain of this style easily sells for at least $192.00 per gram, and that’s well priced. This Italian made serpentine chain measures 5.1mm wide and a versatile 19 1/2 inches long. It also has a surprising amount of thickness measuring 1.6mm. It is expertly finished with sturdy chain ends and a large lobster clasp. This style of chain is normally not recommended to be worn with a pendant, but this example is heavy enough as long as you don’t get carried away. It is in excellent condition showing no wear and tear in any section. The wholesale replacement cost is more than our estate price of just $1,875.00 CAD. Stock #431-00723.

It’s a rope but not your standard design. It is much heavier and more link a cable of uniform width. It is still of hollow construction but feels practically solid with a finished weight of 41 grams. A typical rope chain of the same 4.6mm width would usually weigh half this or less. It’s a unique style and built to last. Even the easy to use lobster style clasp is overweight and slightly oversized for easy use. It appears virtually unworn, showing no wear in any of the joints or connecting rings. At 26 inches long it can be worn by even the largest gentleman. You could easily cut out 7 inches and make a matching bracelet. You won’t find another like this one in 14 karat gold priced at just $73.17 per gram. Estate priced at $3,000.00 CAD. Stock #431-00740.

People are very good at being efficient. Assembly lines and mass production are great ways to extract maximum value from a minimum of input cost. People also love a low price and making things efficiently with cheap, low quality ingredients is a great way to achieve a inexpensive product. The problem is a cheap price doesn’t necessarily mean good value. The same can be said of huge sales at 70% off also doesn’t mean good value. At Bill Le Boeuf Jewellers, we don’t typically have sales because we don’t build in a false discount with our prices. We strive to offer great value at all price points. A hollow rope chain is a great way to demonstrate how “value” isn’t very often the lowest price. This beautiful 18 karat rope chain is certainly hollow yet still heavy gauge. It has been crafted from premium 18 karat gold of 75% purity, not the common 10 karat alloy of 41.7% purity we commonly encounter. There is no wear of any kind in this 6.7mm, 24 inch rope necklace. It really comes down to price per gram, most stores will tell you they don’t sell their chain by weight, but they certainly all buy it by the gram. The price per gram does vary a little with the style and complexity of design, but ALL chain is priced by the gram from the manufacturer. We are happy to, and always display the purity of gold and the weight of every necklace we sell. This one weighs over 1 ounce and contains well over $2,000.00 in just scrap gold value (not to mention the silver alloy value). Turning raw gold into a finished piece of jewellery takes time, cost money, and usually incurs duty if manufactured outside North America. In the case of a chain like this a competitive replacement retail value would be around 2.5 times the intrinsic metal value. Being an estate item we can offer jewellery like this for a better price compared to new. This necklace is in perfect, like new condition. It is a great weight for a man or woman, it can be worn alone or with almost any pendant. It is estate priced at just $3,000.00 CAD or less than $95.00 per gram, and that is an excellent value; please ask around and confirm it for yourself. Stock #431-00742.

We’ll, there may not be a yard of them, but that it what the industry has called this style of necklace for many years. They come in all lengths, with tiny to large diamonds, in all colours and karats of gold. Some have just a single diamond in the centre while others have dozens spaced every centimeter. This estate example showcases 9 small diamonds spaced every 6.5cm, they add up to a 1/4 carat in weight of SI-I-HI quality. The 14 karat white gold necklace connecting all the bezel set diamonds is the very popular diamond cut rolo style. The necklace measures a comfortable 18 inches long. It weighs 3.3 grams, is secured by a strong lobster style clasp and is in like new condition, showing no worn joints or links. This necklace was made by Montreal based RNB Jewellery. On their website they show the same necklace in rose gold for $1,260.00, our excellent condition estate example is priced at $770.00 CAD. Stock #161-00300.

Braids are back (thank you “Vikings”) and they’re trickling back into jewellery trends again. This retro braided chain was around decades before the show and its subsequent parodies and spin-offs, but it’s a perfect example of why they’re making such a comeback. The loose weave of 6 serpentine chains allows this necklace to expand and contract during wear as it works against the neckline. In its smallest position, it measures about 4.9mm wide and at its widest, it measures about 8mm wide. The necklace is a slightly short 17 inches keeping it closer to the collar bone to maximize that natural eye-catching tendency to expand itself. The chain finishes in two sturdy end caps and a heavy box catch with an additional safety lock. The highly polished flat S-shaped links sparkle and twinkle with the slightest movement, making this necklace especially attractive. Estate price $700.00 CAD. Stock #431-00267 e14517.

Many jewellers gather inspiration from nature, this 10 karat yellow gold cobra link necklace mimics the intricate snake scale pattern of a king cobra snake. If you’ve ever wondered why they’re the king of snakes the answer is because they’re the longest of all venomous snakes, with a bite that can kill a human within 15 minutes. Not to mention that they feast almost exclusively on other snakes (terrible monarch if you ask me!). Despite being inspired by something with such a deadly reputation this vintage necklace only looks killer, with a shine that is sure to impress. Weighing in at 9.0 grams this cobra in particular measures 20 inches with a width of 1.6mm. Estate priced at $560.00 CAD. Stock #431-00332.

Hardly a day goes by that someone doesn’t buy one of our many estate gold chains. Most are the common link designs; curb link, box, cable, rope, nautical, Figaro link styles are always in stock in various lengths. Our latest estate chain is a little different. It is formed from light gauge round and flat wire link sections that alternate oval and marquise (navette) shaped. The 6.7mm wide navette links sparkle and twinkle from their highly polished flat surfaces. The necklace measures a little over 17 inches in total if you loop the lobster clasp through the last link. The open link design allows fastening to any link, meaning you can shorten it down to a short choker length if you wish. This is another great example of fine quality Italian gold chain. The Italians continue to demonstrate they are the best when it comes to superior finish and high standards of manufacturing. Crafted from upgraded 14 karat yellow gold, our newest estate necklace is priced at $560.00 CAD. Stock #431-00822.

Gold is on the move again, hitting an all time high of over $2,100.00 USD per ounce as I write this posting (March 4, 2024). 20 years ago it only cost $400.00 USD. Manufacturing jewellery made from gold is getting more expensive everyday. I would never suggest buying jewellery as an investment but there are much worse things you can do with a little disposable income. Even valued simply as scrap metal this necklace contains close to $1,200.00 CAD in just gold. If gold continues to appreciate in price, this chain will be worth more than you paid for it in just the gold alone!!! If well bought, jewellery appreciates over time. The key is buying it properly from a jeweller who can demonstrate excellent value. If you don’t know jewellery, know your jeweller. We are happy to and encourage our customers to shop all of our jewellery around to make sure our claims of great value are accurate. This chain is a popular Gucci link design made from heavy gauge hollow puffed links. The 4.7mm wide links show no wear throughout the 30 inch total length. It is secured by a heavy duty lobster clasp. This chain is suitable for a man or woman, and can be worn with or without a pendant. We’re not sure who the manufacturer B & M are, but the initials along with Italy have been stamped into the flag spacer link by the clasp. Call around, find out what your local jeweller is asking for 14 karat Italian chain. If you can get it out of them I think you’ll find out they charge close to $140.00 per gram or more. Our price for this Gucci link classic is under $77.00 per gram. Total price $1,683.00 CAD. Stock #431-00738.

Admittedly, we don’t do much with silver jewellery. Most of the time when it comes in we simple recycle it, unless it is a high end name brand like Tiffany, David Yurman etc. For lightweight inexpensive generic jewellery it costs us more in time to inventory, refinish, catalogue, and post estate jewellery, so we end up just recycling it. With commodity prices inching higher and higher, it makes sense to showcase the odd higher quality silver item. Fine silver prices are now nicely over $40.00 per ounce Canadian, as such we are getting more requests for better quality and heavier weight estate silver jewellery. Here is a popular style gents curb link sterling silver necklace measuring 6.8mm wide and 24-inches long. It is Italian made, solid construction and weighs a significant 41.4 grams. Secured by a large lobster style clasp and can be used with or without a pendant. This chain is in excellent condition showing no wear and only light scuffs and scratches from previous use. If you’d like it to look like new, one of our onsite goldsmiths should be able to refinish and polish it up to look like new for just $20.00 the same day. Silver is poised to make big price moves. You can still find a substantial silver chain at a great price, if you know where to look. This necklace is estate priced at just $175.00 CAD. Stock #651-00127.

The “pussy willow” (Salix discolor) was named for its fuzzy blooms that resemble kitten paws. Being mesmerized by their soft animal-like fuzz is practically a right of passage for children lucky enough to grow up around these whimsical wetland shrubs. Though you may remember petting these delicate buds you might not know they are actually flowers, or a “fur coat” meant to protect the early bloomers hidden inside that fluff. Like the return of the robin, these fuzzy flowers are one of the first signs of spring. This necklace and bracelet set capture those delicate branches in top-quality richly orange-yellow 21-karat gold. The fluffy buds are topped with chromy white rhodium and finished with a diamond brush to create a soft matte. The bracelet is 7 3/4 inches long and the necklace is a collarbone hugging 17 3/4 inches, or the pieces can be worn as one long necklace for a statement-making 25.5 inches. The set is hollow constructed but still weighs in at a hefty 35.6 grams. The estate price is $4,830.00 CAD. Stock #431-00505.

There is a European flair to this necklace and bracelet, with its sleek modern design and contrasting high polish and machine-finished links. The vertical grained matte links certainly contrast the cubic zirconia studded S links, making their sparkle all the more brilliant. The necklace features 6 gem-set links across the collar bone, while the bracelet features them all the way around the wrist alternating with non gem-set links. It’s a complimentary set but without being too matchy-matchy. The necklace measures 18 inches long and the bracelet 7 1/2 inches. Both are equipped with button-release hidden box catches and safety locks. In further European fashion, the set is made from top-quality 18 karat white gold. Despite being hollow the set still weighs 38 grams, no surprise they are Italian-made. Estate price for the set only, $4,270.00 CAD. Stock #231-00140.

This 10mm wide collar-hugging necklace is layered with thoughtful details, starting with its oversized 18mm wide clasp accented with a cabochon-cut natural ruby set into rose gold. The heavy high-polished endcaps are yellow and white gold and create an eye-catching transition between the clasp and chain. The chain itself is mostly matte-finished miniature waffle texture, interspersed with narrow high-polished links for contrast. The 16-inch chain is in like-new condition showing no dents or dings and weighs in at 33 grams of top-quality 18 karat gold. The estate price is $4,200.00 CAD. Stock #231-00230.

Not all hollow jewellery is equal, and weight is the easiest way to separate the good from the bad. Leave it to Tiffany to turn a utilitarian clasp into a focal style point. The heart/toggle series of necklaces and bracelets are a mainstay design from Tiffany and has been among their most popular pieces for many years now. If ever there was a brand of jewellery with a following, it has got to be Tiffany. Pretty much everything they make is recognizable by some design element that reenforces the brand. Oversized embossed logos, a prominent “T” incorporated somewhere in the design that is hard to overlook. This example is the large rolo link classic; manufactured with a generous 74.5 grams of premium sterling silver. The necklace measures 16 inches in length and can be worn with the heart and toggle clasp at the front or back of your neck. Sterling silver is very soft, we have given the necklace a light polish but didn’t want to refinish it too hard and disrupt the crisp text that has been proudly debossed on the clasp and heart. It is in very good condition and comes with its original drawstring pouch. You can see the current version of this classic on the Tiffany website where is carries a price of $1,250.00. Our lightly worn example is estate priced at $575.00 CAD. Stock #651-00126.

It’s got the look but not the price. This hollow Cuban link necklace measures a full 11.5mm wide, 3.7mm thick, 21 1/2 inches long, secured by an oversized lobster clasp, and is made from premium 18 karat yellow. The rich yellow colour isn’t going to be mistaken by industry standard 10 karat. Its hollow construction keeps the weight (and price) in check but it still weighs a significant 38 grams. The length of 21 1/5 inches is perfect for the average sized gentleman who could wear something like this under his shirt. With a button or two undone it would just be visible. For the averaged sized lady this length would drape nicely under a collar or against the skin. It is in very good condition showing small scuffs, scratches, and a few minor impact marks. We can tidy it up with a quick polish while you wait, but as always, we like to leave or estate jewellery in its original condition. This heavy look, light price Cuban link necklace is just $3,885.00 CAD. 18 karat gold chain for just over $100.00 per gram is outstanding value. Stock #431-00894.

If you’re a really big guy or just someone looking for a long chain, this one just might be perfect. You don’t typically see 30 inch chains on display at jewellery stores, anything over around 24-inches would be considered a special order. This popular curb link style measures a full 30 inches in length. That’s long enough to fit around a slender neck twice for that layered look, or it could be worn as a single statement piece over the heaviest top. The solid construction weighs a significant 24.6 grams and is surprising hefty as it was constructed from upgraded 14 karat gold. The chain is in excellent condition showing no worn areas in any of the link joints. It is secured by a large and easy to use lobster clasp. At 5.7mm wide is certainly doesn’t need a pendant, but this design of necklace is the best style to accept almost anything you’d like to suspend from it. Why settle for basic 10 karat gold when you can get a big upgrade in the form of a 14 karat estate necklace like this for less. Despite ever increasing gold and silver commodity prices, traditional chains like this remain very popular with our estate customers looking for great value. At just $100.00 per gram for 14 karat gold, you know this one is good value. The total estate price is $2,460.00 plus applicable sales tax. Stock #431-00809.

As always the simple designs are often the most enduring. What’s not the love about the delicate combination of a simple gold cable link chain and round Akoya cultured pearls. This hand made necklace features thirteen 6.5mm white cultured pearls evenly distributed along the 16 inch chain length. Gauging value is important when considering any jewellery purchase, even a small one. The gross weight of the necklace is 6.6 grams and each pearl weighs around 0.40 grams leaving approximately 1.4 grams (net weight) of 14 karat in this creation. Pearls of this size and quality have a wholesale cost of around $10.00 each and turning 1.4 grams of 14 karat into a nice chain costs around $120.00. Now you have all the parts but still need to assemble the components by hand, that adds time and more cost. For the estate price of only $250.00 you are getting great value, value that we can easily demonstrate. The necklace is secured by a lobster clasp that can fits through the end loop or over a chain section further up the necklace allowing use as a choker too. This versatile necklace could be worn with almost any outfit. It is in excellent condition and estate priced at $250.00 CAD. Stock #231-00317.

This knot design necklace and earring set are about as well made as you could wish for. The collar-hugging necklace weighs in at a whopping 40.4 grams and the earrings at 11.1 grams; a testament to how solidly they’ve been constructed. The articulated necklace hinges at every knot, allowing a limited range of motion to ensure the piece is always in position. The necklace measures 4mm wide and is equipped with a hidden box catch that snaps tightly closed. The matching earrings feature heavy omega backs that spring firmly into place, keeping the studs tucked tight against the earlobe. The 18 karat yellow gold set is in like-new condition and the necklace comes with an original 2015 Harold Weinstein Ltd. appraisal stating a replacement value of $4,735.00 CAD. At the time that document was written gold was trading on the stock market for $1,117.00 CAD per ounce, today (Aug. 3/2022) it is trading for $2,269.00 CAD per ounce. We feel a modern competitive replacement value with new would be $6,000.00 and our estate price is $4,200.00, CAD. The earrings are estate priced at $1,470.00 CAD. With estate jewellery like this, you can get a premium quality, like new, 18 karat chain for less than the cost of a new 10 karat example. We are quite confident you’d pay $100.00 per gram for a basic 10 karat gold chain at a typical jewellery store, although they likely won’t reveal the weight unless to specifically ask for it. This Italian made necklace is the popular Figaro/Marine style but has bee enhanced with extra bright cutting and rhodium enhancement for some extra bling. The rich hue of top quality 18 karat contrasts even better with the bright white rhodium highlights that almost looks like tiny diamonds set throughout the chain. It measures a versatile 20 inches long, 3mm wide, and can be worn with or without a pendant. It is secured by a large and easy to use lobster clasp. Showing no worn or thin areas anywhere along its length. With gold prices at over $2,900.00 per ounce CAD as of this posting, 18 karat imported Italian chain at just $100.00 per gram is outstanding value. This chain is estate priced at $1,000.00 CAD. Before technology advanced to the point where individuals could carry portable time keeping devices like a pocket watch, spring or weight driven clocks were the only time reference available. For many people, the local town hall tower clock was the way to see the time or hear the chimes ring out the hour and quarter hour. Pocket watches introduced personal time keeping. The industrial revolution of the mid 18th century brought such high tech devices to the masses. Unlike modern mechanical watches, most pocket watches were not protected against severe shocks. Accidentally dropped, your pocket watch could almost be guaranteed to break its balance staff and perhaps a jewell or two. The pocket watch chain served a practical use by securing your watch to a belt loop or a vest button hole. Most were strictly function but some offered a touch of luxury and style. I think this is the most interesting pocket watch chain to pass through our estate department. It was crafted from 14 karat yellow gold and exotic platinum. The elongated four sided connecting links have been decorated by rolling them through a mill, embossing a pattern that looked like it was hand engraved. Not only is the platinum noticeably more white than white gold, it is also much heavier and instantly can felt when the chain is picked up. At just over 14 inches in length it could be wrapped around your wrist twice for a bracelet, or used as a choker necklace. A few extra links could easily be fabricated if you need a touch more room. We believe this style of chain dates from the late 1800s. It is in perfect condition and looks like it was rarely used if at all. It has never been polished and shows no wear in any of the links. It is secured by an oversized spring ring clasp on one end and a swivel clasp on the other. It weighs 10.4 grams and is estate priced at $925.00 CAD. Stock number 431-00756.

If you can’t wear a silver chain because you turn it black or it turns your neck black, or you want a longer lasting material with a white colour, maybe white gold is right for you. We rarely have white gold chain as part of our estate collection. This is a rare treat to be able to showcase such an unusual example. It’s a full 30 inches long, able to fit the largest guy and it can be doubled up for a smaller lady. A section could be removed and easily made into a bracelet and perhaps matching drop earring to. The cylinder shaped links measure 5.3mm wide and feature 4 recessed oval dimples that mot only catch the light but also resist scratches. The swivel lobster clasp has a riveted spring for added security and shows little to no wear. The necklace is in excellent overall condition, still retains the original rhodium finish and has never been polished. Estate priced at $1,920.00 CAD. Stock #431-00717.

The “paperclip” link is the most popular style chain on the market. The design has been around a few years now and we stock new ones in various lengths and sizes. We almost never have the opportunity to showcase a decent sized estate paperclick necklace like this one. This one may just be the Goldilocks length/size/weight/colour/karat/price combination, it won’t be in stock very long. The 18 inch length is very versatile, able to be worn over a light top or against your skin. 3.2mm wide looks substantial but not overwhelming and you can wear a pendant on it too. Hollow construction but still 4.3 grams make it durable but not too expensive. Yellow gold is back and super popular, this one showcases the rich traditional hue of the precious metal. Made from upgraded 14 karat gold (58.3% purity) that is a great balance over 10 karat, with better corrosion resistance and richer hue without getting into premium 18 karat gold. The estate nature of this popular design helps to keep the price in check. Italian made to their usual high standards of manufacturing quality and finish. It is secured by a large and easy to use lobster clasp. Don’t wait on this one, estate priced at $350.00 CAD. Stock #431-00792.

The Alhambra collection by famous French Van Cleef & Arpels dates back to 1968. It contained 20 four leaf clover design motifs set in a beaded frame of rich 18 karat gold has been a core product offering for more than half a century, and really hasn’t changed. It was an immediate success as a symbol of good luck and has come to symbolize the Van Cleef & Arpels brands like no other product. It has recently become even more popular with generic jewellery manufactures making their versions of every quality imaginable. There are outright fakes and counterfeits made from cheap gold plated base metal and plastic, to high end examples using the finest materials but without the name brand price premium. The current price for a original VCARA42100 Alhambra necklace with 20 mother of pearl motifs is a cool $22,900.00. That gets you 86cm of French jewellery perfection. Our high quality Italian made example measures in at a longer 114cm and also comes with a matching 18.5cm bracelet. Our onsite goldsmiths can easily shorten the necklace to any length you wish. The Italian homage features 20 carved mother of pearl four leaf clover motifs measuring 18.5mm and 13mm. They have no front or back, so it doesn’t matter if they spin and twirl while being worn. Both sides are identically finished and set. The necklace and bracelet are both secured by sturdy and easy to use lobster claps. The necklace is the popular 1.4mm rolo style with diamond cut edges. The necklace can be added into the necklace for an ultra long look able to be doubled of even tripled around your neck. The combined weight of necklace and bracelet is 39.2 grams. While not the original Van Cleef & Arpels Alhambra, it was made with exceptional Italian craftsmanship. Both pieces are in like new condition showing no signs of wear. We are proud to showcase this beautiful estate necklace and bracelet set for the estate price of $4,200.00 CAD. If you’d like an original at a slightly lower price point, Van Cleef offer an 18 inch single mother of pearl example for for $3,800.00. Our stock #161-00302.

We won’t get into the quagmire of Cuban link versus curb link, the jury is still out on where nuanced design difference falls into the Cuban category. The generally accepted rule is that a Cuban link is a heavier and more rounded version of the flatter curb link. So Cuban it is! This Italian-made chain features all of the quality marks you’d expect. It’s completely solid despite being cast from 14 karat yellow gold and made to a bulky 9mm wide. The 22 1/2 inch long chain weighs in at 68.4 grams and features sturdy end caps and an oversized heavy-duty lobster clasp. For the guys who call us now and again looking for heavier chains here is your chance. Estate price $4,900.00 CAD. Stock #e13960 431-00227.

It may seem strange to have two almost identical strands of pearls but put them on together and they nest perfectly one against the other, creating the look of a dressy double strand with the versatility to be worn as single strands. You could break up the set, or attach them together to feature the exquisite handmade diamond and platinum clasps. Other than their lengths being half an inch different from each other the strands are identical. Both feature well-matched 8.5 – 9mm round pearls of a soft cream colour and blush overtones. The pearls exhibit a high luster, showing sharp reflections of the world around them, a testament to a thick layer of fine grain nacre, meaning the pearls were allowed to mature and their production wasn’t rushed. The strands both end in statement clasps that could be positioned to the front or side of the neck during wear as a focal point. The half-barrel clasps are handmade from platinum and covered in diamonds, even the button that releases the clasp is a diamond. Each clasp features 16 baguette and 10 round brilliant cut diamonds of VVS-VS-FGH quality, for a total weight 1.45 carats per clasp. Both strands are accompanied by Harold Weinstein LTD. appraisals stating replacement values of $16,250.00 and $16,650.00 CAD. Our estate price for each strand is $4,000.00 CAD. Stock numbers 231-00185 and 231-00186.

This graduated necklace is a Birks’ vintage masterpiece! Its retro vibe is surprisingly on point for the resurgence of oversized yellow gold neckpieces but this one is the real deal, made from a substantial 55 grams of 14 karat. The woven, hollow link chain goes from 11mm wide at the clasp to 15mm wide at its front. Its bulk makes it wear shorter than you’d expect from its 18-inch length, making a bold collar of glowing 14 karat yellow gold. The real marvel of jewellery engineering comes when you get to the decorative clasp. It features a spring-loaded fold-over catch with a hinged lock. Clasp the two ends together and slide the lock in place and the spring tension keeps the lock tightly engaged. This combination of quality, inventiveness, and bold design could only come from Birks! Estate price for this 55-gram neckpiece $4,000.00 CAD. Stock #e13971 431-00242.

Weighing in at 303.41 grams this is our new heavyweight champ when it comes to Cuban links necklaces showcased in our estate department. Exactly just how heavy is 303.41 grams? Well, it’s a bit over 2/3 of a pound, more than a 6-pack of regulation golf balls, more than 3 decks of standard poker cards, around 50 pencils, and about 10 slices of bread. Hopefully, these comparisons give a reasonable idea of how hefty this necklace is. It measures 22 1/2 inches long, 13.5mm wide, and 5.2mm thick. It has been crafted from solid 14-karat yellow gold with an integrated plunger clasp and double safety clasps for an extra level of security. It is in like new condition showing no wear of any kind. We didn’t even need to polish it in preparation for sale, just a quick ultrasonic cleaning was all it required. Another way to get an idea of just how significant this necklace is would be to calculate just the value of the precious metal it contains. 14-karat gold is around 58% pure resulting in just shy of 5.7 ounces of pure gold used to make it. The value of just the gold used to make this necklace is $14,700.00 CAD as of today (August 8, 2023). The majority of alloy used in 14-karat yellow gold is silver, accounting for about 4 ounces valued at $118.00 CAD. Obviously, it costs more than just raw gold and silver to create something as fantastic as this necklace. If you wanted to replace something this nice with new, I’d expect you to have to come up with around $30,000.00. Our like new example is estate priced at $23,900.00 CAD. Stock #431-00525.

The links are extremely tight showing no gaps. With a finished weight of over 30 grams in beautiful traditional yellow gold and a width of 4.1mm the tangible sense of quality is very apparent. A plunger type clasp has been assembled from white gold. White gold has superior “spring” and hardness characteristics making it the logical choice for a clasp. A supplementary side safety for the extra level of security is also there and snaps easily shut every time. The 18 inch length should fit almost any lady. Perfect condition, showing no wear of any kind. Total estate price $2,800.00 CAD. Stock #e8820.

Love them or hate them, snakes have been popular subject matter for all varieties of jewellery designs. We mostly encounter such serpentine jewellery in the form of rings and bracelets that wrap around the finger or wrist perfectly displaying the reptiles abilities. I think this is the first time we’ve had a snake design incorporated into a necklace and not simple a pendant. This item most likely came from the United Kingdom as is was created in 9 karat gold. Soldered into the circular mesh/foxtail link necklace is a snake head and tail. The choice of chain is perfect, it mimics the look of a smooth scaly shank skin. The necklace measures 16 inches long and is secured by a sturdy lobster clasp. Bead set in the head are two, nice quality, genuine ruby eyes. The back of the head contains 4 tiny diamonds adding a touch of reflective sparkle. The necklace weighs in a 13.4 grams and is estate priced at $675.00 CAD. Stock #231-00297.

When you hear ‘German made’ the first thing that pops into mind is efficiency and quality, and for good reason. Many German designers and goldsmiths have a dislike for white and rose gold as it is not a true form of gold, which only occurs yellow naturally. They prefer to use materials in their true forms, so it comes as no surprise that this set be made from 20 grams of top quality 18 karat yellow gold and grey white platinum. The uber modern three piece set is unlike anything we’ve showcased, allowing for a nearly endless combination of parts, creating a nearly endless variety of looks; limited only by the imagination of the wearer. The innovation of each piece is hidden in the details of closures and precision finishes, the more time you spend with the set the more you’ll marvel at the inventiveness of German engineering. The designer has used rubber cord and synthetic geometric coloured gems accents to bring colour, texture, and variety to each piece. For a finishing touch the tip of the pin bar has been flush set with sparkling round brilliant cut diamond. Estate price for the set $2,000.00 CAD. Stock #e10217 161-00066..

Some chains are just meant to be worn on their own and this is one of those. The piece consists of 127 5mm beads that have been deeply patterned with a diamond-cut crescent moon pattern around their circumference. The rhodium-enhanced beads roll freely on the chain maximizing their intense sparkle. The necklace measures 32 inches long, allowing it to be worn twice around the neck or draped down to the diaphragm. It is of course Italian-made and features sturdy end caps and an oversized lobster clasp for easy fastening. The necklace weighs in at 40.1 grams of 10-karat white gold and is in excellent condition. The estate price is $2,940.00 CAD. Stock #431-00651.

Sure chevrons are cool but let’s not pretend this “millennial” trend is a new thing. Like much of the content populating your Pinterest page this is a resurgence from the 70s and 80s (see macrame everything for Interior Design boards and neon-infused Spring/Summer Clothing boards). The peak of the chevron necklace was around the mid ’80s, back then we called them V necklaces. Whatever you call them they make an elegant focal point draped across the collarbone; this retro example especially as it measures a significant 6.6mm wide. The warm 14 karat yellow gold creates a subtle accent, blending into the skin tone better than its white gold counterpart. Measuring 17 inches long it should hug most necks in a close line dipping just below the collar bone. The retro-chic necklace has been well made from 23.3 grams of gold. As a playful final touch, the box catch has been equipped with a heart shaped release button. Estate price for the like neck necklace $1,680.00 CAD. Stock #e13172 431-00240..

At 15 inches long this heavyweight Gucci link necklace was built to closely encircle the throat. The oversized 11.8mm solid spring ring clasp has been built as a focal point allowing it to be worn at the front of the neck, resting in the hollow of the collarbone. The puffed 5.6mm wide Gucci links are all solidly constructed from 33.2 grams of top-quality 18-karat yellow gold. The like-new statement chain is estate priced for $3,500.00 CAD. Stock #431-00515.

The wheat link is an underappreciated design, its tight weave mirrors the pattern of wheat grain but with gently curving narrow bands of gold. The hollow Italian-made example we are showcasing today measures 4.4mm wide. The warm 14-karat yellow gold chain is an all-occasion 23 inches long, making it appropriate to be worn on its own as a statement piece, or part of a layered look. The chain ends in decorative rhodium accented end caps with an oversized decorative spring ring catch. The chain weighs in at 23.2 grams and is in like-new condition for the estate price of $2,485.00 CAD. Stock #431-00588.

If this necklace were 10-karat gold it would have to weigh 112 grams to equal the same amount of fine gold that this 51-gram 21-karat chain does. 10-karat gold is a great way to produce jewellery at a lower price point but it does come with a few compromises. When you’re buying 10-karat gold, you’re buying more silver than gold. The actual gold content of any 10-karat gold is 41.7% (by weight) and the rest is mostly inexpensive fine silver alloy. This chain was crafted from 22-karat gold which is 91.6% pure gold, with only a small amount of alloy for added hardness and durability. As of writing this post (May 30, 2023) the value of just the gold in this necklace is $3,821.00 CAD. Manufacturing raw gold into a beautiful piece of jewellery takes time and adds extra costs in the form of labor, alloy, taxes, material loss, packaging, machine costs, shipping, and some profit along the way. Buying an estate chain like this keeps those extra costs to a minimum and represents the most value available. If you check the price per gram of a new chain made from less pure 10, 14, or 18-karat gold, you’ll quickly see that at under $114.00 CAD per gram, this like-new necklace is very well priced. The necklace measures 4mm wide and will fit anyone as it is 24 inches long. It is secured by a simple but effective “S” clasp that doesn’t rely on anything but the natural malleability of high karat gold. The rich hue of 21-karat gold and the noticeable extra density is something even 18-karat can’t match. This necklace is estate priced at $5,810.00 CAD. Stock #431-00618.

We’ve been fortunate enough to have several Art Nouveau necklaces and this one is among the nicest we’ve seen. The 16 inch long neckpiece hugs the collarbone but drapes almost 5.5cm beyond that. As is the custom with these necklaces the “arms” that extend off the main body are flexible, allowing it to sit naturally on any wearer. This particular example happens to boast a Canadian pedigree, hailing from Canada’s original mega department store (in the vein of the British period-drama Mr. Selfridge) Eaton’s. The once cost to coast, high end department store sold everything from engagement rings to assemble-yourself homes. This warm 14 karat yellow gold piece is studded with seed pearls and features 2 intense royal purple amethysts. The necklace retains its original antique spring ring catch and is in like-new condition despite being at least 120 years old. Estate price $1,050.00 CAD. Stock #231-00245.

We just missed Easter for this one, but its palette of colour is bright and cheery for any time of year. Blue topaz and amethyst aren’t a combination seen too often. The unusual pairing is very attractive in this 10 karat gold 18-inch necklace. Each of the 74 fully faceted gems is hand set in a hinged double gallery setting. This setting style is strong, secure, keeps the overall weight manageable, and easy to clean. The 4mm round, and 8mm x 4mm maquise shaped stones weigh an estimated 26 carats in total gem weight. Few gems offer the visual impact of amethyst and topaz anywhere near this price point. The necklace forms a soft V under its own weight with the extra amethyst marquise in the centre. 26 carats of gems account for just over 5 grams of the 24.1 gram total weight leaving approximately 19 grams of 10 karat gold. A simple machine made chain (without any stones) weighing 19 grams could easily cost $1,700.00. The 10 karat yellow gold is the perfect complementing colour to blue topaz and is very flattering to the medium purple amethyst. This necklace is in perfect condition and estate priced at $1,400.00, that’s less than $20.00 per stone, including the 10 karat gold settings! Stock #231-00073 e9223.

A statement chain all the way from the United Arab Emirates, from luxury (and we mean Luxury) retailer Damas Jewellery. The statement factor for this chain doesn’t come from its size, as its two strands measure only 1.45mm wide, it’s the contrast of slate grey-black rhodium and warm 21-karat yellow gold. The unique combination is eye-catching and allows the chain to be worn as a simple layer, or in a decorative twist. The oversized catch can hook onto several corresponding rings allowing the chain to be worn anywhere between 17 – 18 inches long. The well-traveled 9.7 gram chain is estate priced for $1,050.00 CAD. Stock #431-00506.

If you aren’t a fan of traditional white opal you should look into its lesser known sibling, the black opal. These opals form with a dark body colour instead of the more common white or cream colours. The result is a more obvious fire as the flashing colours are set against a contrasting dark background. Their body colour can range from black, grey, blue, or green and those colours in themselves can be more appealing. The black opals in this handmade one of a kind neck piece represent a good variety of the colours available. The seven small circular cabochons used as accent links are true blue in their colour and display mostly red and orange flashes. They offer a sharp contrast to the mostly blue and electric green flashes of the four oval and three pear shaped cabs. Of course, the main opal is the most impressive of the group. Its body colour is a smoky lilac blue and it exhibits the full spectral range of flash fire at the slightest movement. The goldsmith that made this piece opted to surround these cooler tones in warm 14 karat yellow gold. Each link is fully articulated to allow for a full range of motion, maximizing the fire of the estimated 4.00 carats total weight of black opal. Even the fancy link chain has been painstakingly handmade. The 24.6 gram necklace is secured with a heavyweight, easy to fasten lobster clasp. The estate price is $3,220.00 CAD. Stock #231-00156 e13460.

This may look like just another high quality 18 karat gold curb link chain, but upon closer inspection, there is a subtle detail that almost goes unnoticed. There are 7 figure 8 infinity links evenly spaced around the front of this necklace. We think this necklace originated somewhere in the Middle East as the karat stamped appears to be Arabic in nature. We’ve tested the gold to be at least 18 karat in purity. The 7 infinity links have been cast from a very subtle alloy of white gold that almost blends with the rest of the yellow gold links. They are spaced on the front half of the necklace every 6th link. The necklace measures 19 1/2 inches in total length and 6.6mm wide. It is in excellent condition, freshly polished, and shows practically no wear in any of the solid cast links. Secured by a sturdy lobster clasp this necklace is estate priced at $4,200.00 CAD. Stock #431-00430.

This station chain and earring set is a study of faceted beads, with the 6.8mm focal bead almost exactly mirroring the 0.9mm beads that make up the chain itself. Combined they use their faceted high polished surfaces to sparkle brightly. The 40-inch necklace can be worn long or layered on itself, with the matching 2-inch long drop earrings making a dramatic partner to the chain. The 10 karat yellow gold set is in like-new condition for the estate price of $686.00 CAD. Stock numbers 431-00368 & 426-00111.

This is one of those borderline yellow golds that almost looks rose depending on the angle, probably due to the high mirror finish. If the links weren’t so square it could almost pass for Cuban considering its dimensions of 2.50mm x 1.16mm. At 20.5 inches the chain should show nicely with any shirt collar, especially if it’s paired with a pendant. The 8.1 gram chain is solidly made from 10 karat gold and comes equipped with an oversized lobster clasp for easy fastening. Estate price $490.00 CAD. Stock #431-00299.

The most popular style chain on the planet at the moment is the “paperclip” link. While not exactly the same, this flat open curb link is not too far off. We’re beginning to see super-light hollow link paperclip chains come in with stretched and dented links that don’t lay flat. It’s too bad that consumer demand for the absolute lowest price drives manufacturers to produce gold chains that simply can’t stand up to the most basic use. This 18 karat Italian-made 20-inch chain wasn’t made to be the cheapest chain available. It was made from premium gold of solid construction to last for decades. It is secured by an easy to use lobster clasp and the links have diamond cut edges that catch the light. Imported 18 karat chain for under $100.00 per gram is excellent value. This 9.6 gram, 3mm wide necklace is in great shape showing no wear in any of the links. It is estate priced at $910.00 CAD. Stock #e14121 431-00260

There’s fashion jewellery and there’s precious jewellery, but this 53-inch-long necklace is the meeting of the two. The airy necklace is the epitome of the 70s and features a mix of brightly shining oval connecting links and organic statement links that measure 10.5mm wide. The extreme length of the 10-karat yellow gold necklace makes it ideal for layering, either with other pieces or with itself as it wraps around the neck 2-3 times comfortably. The 6.5-gram piece is finished with sturdy end caps and a medium lobster clasp. The estate price is $518.00 CAD. Stock #431-00367.

A delicate strand of lace hand-stitched from white gold and diamonds. The 14 karat necklace features 137 petite round brilliant cut diamonds of well-matched I1-I quality. The collarbone hugging 16 inches ensures the 2.21 carats (estimated weight) of diamonds twinkle brightly with every breath. The necklace is not only thoughtfully designed it’s also very well built allowing it to rotate and bend to fit the contours of any neck without compromising longevity. Its impressive 15.9 gram weight is a further testament to the piece’s quality. The necklace is in like-new condition, showing no signs of wear and retaining its original chromy white rhodium plating. It’s secured by a heavy lobster clasp for secure easy fastening. The necklace was sold as an estate item by Rutledge Jewellers and comes with its original box, receipt, and appraisal. The appraisal suggests an appropriate replacement value of $7,200.00 CAD. The necklace was purchased for $3,269.91 plus sales tax. We feel a competitive replacement price with new would be $5,000 CAD and our estate price is $2,500.00 CAD. Stock #161-00192.

The diamond tennis necklace is one of the more timeless and elegant pieces of jewellery available. This fiery collar of brilliance encircles the neck gracefully, elevating any occasion. This example contains natural diamonds of better quality than you’d expect given the 10 karat gold setting. The bright white rhodium plated white gold pays a perfect complement to the estimated 3.25 carats of round brilliant cut diamonds. Each of the 125 flexible links is a miniature faceted frame encircling the centre diamond. Only under close scrutiny do you realize the setting isn’t actually a big diamond. The illusionary effect gives this necklace the appearance of a 12 to 15 carat necklace. The 3.25 carats of diamonds that circle all the way around to the back of the neck are of SI2 to I1 clarity with a bright HI colour. The 16-inch necklace weight of 26.3 grams is quality you can feel that holds itself in place during wear. This necklace has hardly been worn and remains in like new condition. It still retains 100% of its original factory applied bright white rhodium plating that has never been polished. It is secured by a concealed clasp that mimics the links and blends almost seamlessly into the back of the necklace. A foldover side safety clasp adds an extra level of security. When you break down the price per link to just $42.00 the value becomes much more obvious. This is a very luxurious jewellery item that is very flattering on a feminine necklace and should be seen in person. The estate price is $5,250.00 CAD. Stock #161-00198.

A flat curb link is about as timeless as chains come, they’ve been consistently in fashion since the link style first spiked in popularity in the 1970s. With the recent rise of mixed weight yellow gold layering, this 18 1/2-inch chain is right on-trend. The curb link lends itself surprisingly well to women’s fashion with its propensity to drape into the hollows of the collarbone. This 6mm example displays a sharply faceted mirror-finished surface that will stand out well layered with other pieces. The chain is well made (Italian, of course) from 19.7 grams of 10-karat yellow gold. It’s secured with a heavy, easy-to-faster lobster clasp. Estate priced at $1,288.00 CAD. Stock #431-00349.

One of the most unusual hollow-style links we’ve encountered, not the Cuban shape but the assembly. Instead of a hollow tube with an interior seam, this chain features solid gold plates with open grills of gold where the links lay over each other on the back. Stylistically it’s really almost a feature, drawing you in to take a closer look at how it’s put together. The chain also boasts a massive scale thanks to that cost-saving feature; it measures 10mm wide by an extra-long 27 inches. Though you’ll be able to slide it over your head there is an innovative double-locking button-release catch. The 63.8 gram, 14 karat yellow gold piece is in like-new condition, showing no dents or dings as a testament to its innovative manufacturing. The estate price is $5,810.00 CAD. Stock #431-00573.

An oversized statement chain from one of our favorite Canadian jewellery houses, Birks. The necklace was made extra long at 27 1/2 inches and features unique interlocking yellow gold links broken up with oversized rose gold versions of that same link. The subtle colour difference between the two tones of 14 karat gold helps to draw the eye to those 7 focal links. The oversized lobster clasp has been designed to mirror those links, ensuring the effect is not lost if you wear the chain with your hair up. The chain itself measures 5.7mm in diameter with the rose gold links measuring 9.3mm wide. The chain weighs in at 54 grams and is, of course, Italian made. Estate price is $4,140.00 CAD. We look at woven links so much in this business (not complaining) that we often overlook what makes up their weave. This 9mm woven link is made of oversize figure eights laid tightly on top of each other. This subtle infinity necklace measures 17 inches long and is fastened with a heavy lobster clasp and sturdy end caps. Its heft speaks to its quality, weighing 13.1 grams despite being of hollow construction The necklace is in like-new condition and estate priced for $765.00 CAD. Stock #e14468.

When shopping for durability woven links are often not the best choice. Though they look heavy and sturdy they are usually made up of many intertwined links that are individually very fine. We recommend taking a very close look at each link that makes up the weave before purchasing, especially if you intend to hang a heavy pendant for the chain. This woven chain however is one of those woven chains that are made from many strong links. The 4.4mm wide by 2.0mm thick chain is equally suited to carry a heavy statement pendant or stand alone. The Italian-made 16-inch chain is collar hugging and cast from 17.2 grams of extra warm 18 karat yellow gold. Estate price $1,440.00 CAD. Stock #e14075 431-00347.

We love vintage, retro, antique, and all things estate jewellery; but most of all we love providing our clients with outstanding value. Here is our latest high quality estate necklace. Crafted in Italy (of course) from solid 18 karat yellow gold. Most rope chain today is constructed from light gauge hollow tubing that must be worn carefully. This chain may only measure 2.3mm in diameter but it weighs a substantial 11.3 grams. The premium gold alloy displays a rich warm hue that only high karat gold can. The 20 necklace is in excellent condition and estate priced at $1,120.00 CAD. Stock #e14289.

With a metal thickness of 1.6mm, this chain could almost qualify as a Cuban link, except it’s been finished with flat, boxy edges instead of the puffy rounded finish. The 4.8mm wide square curb link also features a more open link style, allowing it to keep its overall gram weight in check, keeping the price point relatively low compared to its showy scale. That being said the 14-inch long chain still weighs in at an impressive 29.7 grams of rich 14 karat yellow gold. It’s secured with an integrated catch that is only visible under close inspection, making it much less obvious if that catch accidentally works its way to the front of the neck, as they often do. The estate price for this like-new piece is $2,496.00 CAD. Stock #431-00490.

The wonderful thing about gold is how it can be blended with other metals to create subtle colour differences. This 14 karat alloy shows a slightly green hue as compared to a traditional 14 karat yellow gold alloy. A little zinc and/or nickel will often produce a subtle green hue when added to gold. 8 karat German gold often looks a little green. We don’t often see 14 karat green. This oval cable link chain measures 16 inches long and sparkles with its diamond-cut edges. It comes with a super-strong, over-lapping clasp. The chain weighs 9.6 grams and is estate priced at $660.00 CAD. Stock #e14350.

Woven links offer a 3-dimensional quality you don’t get with traditional links. This oversized number is a perfect example measuring 3.50mm x 4.00mm and an extra-long 26 inches, allowing it to slide easily over the head. The 10 karat hollow constructed chain was made from 19.5 grams of yellow gold but features brightly rhodium-plated highlights on every link face. That touch of white accentuates the chain’s movement and changes of direction during wear, but until they flash you can’t tell the rhodium is there. Despite being hollow the chain shows no dents or dings and features solid end caps and an oversized lobster clasp, not that you’ll need it. Estate price $1,085.00 CAD. Stock #e14247 431-00223.

We have a large selection of high-end antique pocket watches but you’d never know it because no one ever asks. That is the fate of the pocket watch, unfortunately, but we just can’t bring ourselves to take apart our collection, in the hopes that they will eventually find loving homes. Pocket watch chains however are a completely different story. These timepiece tethers were built better than necklace chains as they were made to carry such heavy and, at the time, valuable objects. Whenever we encounter them we convert them into oversized statement chains but this time someone else beat us to it. The necklace portion of the set measures a close 16 inches long by 5.6mm wide by 2.7mm thick, technically designating the link as a Cuban link. The bracelet portion measures 8 1/2 inches long and is actually graduated, starting at 4mm wide and thickening to 5.5mm wide at the center. Both feature the signature of any antique UK pocket watch chain, every single link has been karat stamped. What really makes this antique set unique is the fact that they’ve been made rose gold. The solid set is made from 46.5 grams of 9 karat gold and both the chain and bracelet are equipped with traditional pocket watch chain clasps that end up being more of a focal point than an accent. Estate price for the chain is $1,890.00 CAD and for the bracelet $791.00 CAD. Stock numbers 431-00361 and 441-00173.

Tis the season to be taken advantage of if you don’t know how to assess the value of jewellery. We are almost exclusive in displaying all the pertinent details allowing you to determine the value of our jewellery. Big discounts and bold text don’t necessarily mean great value. This time of year we see big promotions proclaiming massive savings and huge discounts, but do some homework and make sure you’re getting the value you think. Most jewellers promote their jewellery in a manner this makes it impossible to determine if they are offering good value. They leave out important basic details about the quality and the weight among other things. We are proud to offer our customers the respect they deserve, and our best value year-round without confusing sales. Our latest estate item is about the easiest of jewellery items to figure out good value. Once you know the quality of gold, its weight, and to a certain degree the origin, it’s simple math to determine the value in relation to the price. To make things really easy, I can let you know this chain contains $870.00 CAD worth of fine gold content and about $7.00 in silver alloy (as of November 28, 2020). Turning fine gold into a great piece of jewellery takes knowledge, time, machinery, other metal alloys, and skilled craftsmen. Once all is said and done, you end up with a beautiful necklace in this case. We’d expect to see a brand new chain like this to have a retail price range of anywhere from at least $1,800.00 to over $3,000.00 depending on where it was for sale. Yes, jewellery has huge price ranges for the same item making things very confusing for consumers. Our latest estate necklace is suitable for a man or woman. It could be worn alone or with a pendant. The Figaro/nautical link design is robust and extremely sturdy. Made in Italy ensures the quality will stand up, as it is finished with a heavy lobster clasp and heavy gauge chain ends. The 14 karat chain weighs a significant 19.8 grams, measures a versatile 24 inches, and is 4.2mm wide. Put our jewellery to the test, we encourage you to shop us around, we know you’ll learn the high value we have on everything we have. This chain is in like new condition and estate priced at $1,500.00 CAD. Stock #431-00460.

The necklace ends in decorative end caps with an oversized stylized lobster clasp, ensuring it looks equally interesting when viewed from behind. We have a surprising selection of extra-long chains, many are from repurposed pocketwatch chains but this Gucci link chain was specially made to be a slip-over-the-head 30-inch length. The chain is very solidly constructed, weighing in at an impressive 48.1 grams of 14 karat yellow gold. It is Italian made and each puffed link measures 6.2mm wide. The chain is secured with an oversized lobster clasp and heavy jump ring ends. Estate price is $3850.00 CAD. Stock #431-00330.

30 plus years ago, herringbone chains were one of the more popular styles around. They offered a sparkling alternative to ropes and the various other “open” link designs. Original examples, like our latest estate offering, were made from generous gauge flat gold links. Worn mindfully they were quite durable and could be worn for decades. Like many great designs, they get copied and reproduced to be cheaper and cheaper by using super light, thin gauge material that almost immediately kinked or creased, giving the smooth ribbon on gold an obvious damaged section. Properly constructed examples seemed too expensive compared to the cheap versions and slowly disappeared from the market. Naturally, the cheap ones quickly broke and that was pretty much the end of the herringbone design. Once in a while we see an original come through our estate department and we fall in love with them all over again and for good reason. They are extremely flattering to the feminine neckline as they sparkle and reflect light over every contour. This example is the perfect 18 1/2 inch length for most women. The Italian-made necklace measures a significant 7mm wide and weighs a generous 19.7 grams. This original example is in like-new condition and has never even been polished. Just a quick high-temperature ultrasonic cleaning and it is ready to be enjoyed again. Retro is back and excellent examples of original herringbone necklaces are tough to find. This estate necklace is estate priced at $1,260.00 CAD. Stock #431.00340.

Even though this necklace is 10 karat gold and hollow, that doesn’t mean it isn’t of good quality. There are many ways to make hollow, weight-saving, cost-saving jewellery. Modern manufacturing techniques allow ultra-lightweight construction to the point where the jewellery becomes almost unwearable and certainly not durable. While this 4.5mm rope necklace will never be as strong as a solid chain, it will certainly last decades if kept clean and worn with consideration of its limitations. Hollow yes, but it still weighs a significant 10.2 grams and is in perfect condition. It comes equipped with an extra secure barrel clasp and an additional side safety catch. At today’s gold price this necklace contains $325.00 in just recyclable gold content, making our estate price of $560.00 CAD an excellent value. Stock #e13881 431-00082.

A flat curb link is about as timeless as chains come, they’ve been consistently in fashion since the link style first spiked in popularity in the 1970s. With the recent rise of mixed weight yellow gold layering, this 20 1/2 inch chain is right on trend. The curb link lends itself surprisingly well to women’s fashion with its propensity to drape into the hollows of the collar bone. This 5.3mm example displays a beautifully polished finish surface that will stand out well layered with other pieces. The chain has been expertly crafted in Italy and is in new condition. It is of hollow construction but still weighs a substantial 9.2 grams of 10 karat yellow gold. It’s secured with an oversized, easy-to-fasten lobster clasp. Estate priced at $770.00 CAD. Stock #431-00443.

It’s unfortunate we don’t run into the push lock clasp more often, it really is one of the nicest chain closures available. The oversized clasps operate on the same principle as a standard lobster, in that they are heavily constructed and contain a steel spring. Where the lobster clasp has an external pull tab to open its jaw, the push lock has a flush button that depresses the jaw. That small change makes a world of difference, to fasten it you bring the chain end up against the fingernail that is depressing the button, slide the end down that nail and land it on the hook first try. It’s the end of behind-your-back fumbling! Although at 30 inches long you really don’t need to use this wonderful clasp as the chain easily slips over the head. The 7mm wide rope chain is made by Birks and weighs in at 37.6 grams of 14 karat gold, as proof of its quality despite its hollow construction. The chain is in like-new condition, showing no dents or dings. Estate price $3360.00 CAD. Stock #431-00404.

$15.00 per diamond never looked so pretty. This fancy “V” shaped winged pendant is very flattering on a feminine frame as it sits just below the collar bones. The 111 tightly set round brilliant and baguette cut natural diamonds are calculated to weigh a combined 1.75 carats in total and have been conservatively graded at an I1 clarity with an I colour. The pendant is suspended from a sturdy 1.5mm wide wheat chain manufactured with solid wire woven links and secured with a strong lobster clasp. This pendant is in perfect condition and appears unworn. The bright rhodium finish applied at the manufacturer remains fully intact. If you or the intended recipient is of slender proportions, the 18-inch chain can be shortened to a custom length. The 10 karat pendant/necklace weighs a generous 7.2 grams (including the 111 diamonds). Comes in our traditional blue and white presentation box, gift wrapped of course. This beautiful pendant is estate priced at $1,680.00 CAD. Stock #161-00187.

Looks like Turkish chain houses are giving Italy a run for its money! This made in Turkey hollow link chain is as well-built as anything we’ve seen from Italian chain manufacturers. The 18 1/2 inch necklace is made up of unique yellow gold links with every fourth link cut in half and grafted with twisting rectangular white gold links; giving the entire chain the illusion of twisting round and round. The 5.4mm wide links are in their original condition, maintaining the chromy white rhodium on the twisted sections. The 14 karat chain only displays a couple of very minor dings and the occasional light scratch, otherwise, it’s in like-new condition. The oversized lobster clasp is as eye-catching as the chain itself, featuring decorative ridges and a tight spring-loaded trigger. Estate price $1,750.00 CAD. Stock #431-00327.

Using the best of our jewellery detective skills we’ve come to the conclusion that this antique necklace is most likely from the Aesthetic Period (1885-1901). The necklace consists of unusual 15 carat gold, an alloy usually only encountered in Britain and originally authorized for karat stamping by the British Hallmarking Council in 1850. That alone didn’t point us to the Aesthetic Period, the real signal was the fringed collar motif, a signature of this latest stage of the Victorian Era. Delicate layered chains gathering at decorative stations were a repeated theme in the collier de chien (you read that right, dog collar) movement, popularized by Alexandra, Princess of Wales who wore them to cover a large scar on her neck. This collar measures a comfortable 17.5 inches long, resting it on the collarbone instead of the throat. It’s set with brooding garnets, blister pearls, and demi-pearls all in like-new condition, in fact, the entire necklace is in unworn condition. Judging from the overall patina on the piece it was likely stored away and forgotten about. At a presumed 125 years of age, this necklace certainly earns its estate designation and is priced at $1,540.00 CAD. Stock #231-00165.

Sure you’ve seen oversized statement chains on celebrities and athletes before. They’ve been popular long before Mr. T. Maybe they’re not for you but I don’t think you can fully understand the draw behind these monster chains until you’ve tried one on. The look and feel of a substantial gold necklace definitely have a mysterious attraction. Fasten this Miami Cuban around your neck and you’ll instantly shrink two inches. Weighing in at 201.9 grams (close to 1/2 a pound). I can only remember one chain that we have ever had in stock that was just a touch heavier. Honestly, you may need a note from your chiropractor if you intend to wear this daily. At 28 inches long and 9,8mm wide this 14 karat yellow gold chain was made to be seen (even at a distance) and it’s in perfect condition. Equipped with a super secure integrated box catch with two additional safety clasps. As a finishing touch, the solid 14 karat construction has been treated to a final electroplated finish of rich 18 karat gold to give it that ultra premium look. This chain is in like new condition, it has never been polished or refinished and remains in like new condition. The estate price for this once in a lifetime chain is $14,000.00 CAD. Stock #431-00445.

The Viking craze in movies and TV (most recently The Northmen) has had some interesting trickle-down effects on women’s fashion; bringing braids back for one, and more importantly this epic chainmail bib necklace! This decorative armor consists of three different link styles interwoven to catch the light from every angle. The 14 karat yellow gold statement piece features an extendable end allowing it to sit 17-18 inches long. Weighing in at 8.2 grams, it’s a far cry from the 10 kilograms of a traditional chainmail hauberk (long-sleeved tunic). Add a little shieldmaiden to your day for the estate price of $980.00 CAD. Stock #436-00149.

White gold’s popularity ebbs and flows, but it’s been the preferred choice for rings for well over a decade now. When it comes to heavier chains, however, yellow gold absolutely dominates; we hardly ever get requests for white gold necklaces that weigh more than a couple of grams. I guess if you like the look of a white necklace, sterling silver is pretty attractive considering it costs 20 times less than even 10 karat white gold. Sterling silver tarnishes and it doesn’t last as long as gold, but it certainly has a cost advantage. For those who want a proper white gold necklace, here is a good opportunity to pick up a seldom encountered estate rolo style. This chain is in perfect condition showing no dents or dings. It is of hollow but decent gauge construction with a finished weight of 17.2 grams. It is made from upgraded 14 karat gold (58.3 purity) and measures 22 inches. The perfect length for either a lady or gentleman. Crafted in Italy so you know it is of high quality. It is estate priced at $1,320.00 CAD. Stock #431-00348.

Rope chains get a bad rap because so many of them are made so hollow you can dent them just by looking at them the wrong way. But a solid rope chain is about as durable as they come! This 14 karat yellow gold example is also an appropriate size for everyday wear measuring a demure 2.5mm wide by 20 inches long. That combination makes the chain large enough to stand on its own while still being appropriate for a layered look. The 10.3 gram piece is finished with sturdy end caps and a medium-sized lobster catch. The estate price is $840.00 CAD. Stock #431-00384

There are many ways to approach the station chain and all result in different looks. For something dressier, you want larger diamonds in a tighter configuration with only a bit of space between each. For a casual appearance, you’d usually opt for fewer diamonds spaced further away from each other. But the real advantage to a station chain is that no matter what you choose they will all be very versatile. They fit a layered look perfectly or make an elegant finishing touch worn on their own with jeans or a cocktail dress. This Italian-made example is on the dressier side, measuring 18 inches but featuring 13 round brilliant cut diamonds. Together the diamonds equal a tidy 1.00 carat of bright I1-GH sparkle, their bezels bump their footprints up to 4.4mm in diameter. The cable link chain that carries the diamonds ends in a stylized lobster clasp for security and easy fastening. The estate price for the like-new necklace is $1,750.00 CAD. Stock #161-00177.

I can recall only a couple of gent’s chains coming through our estate department that were heavier than this one. Our latest estate Cuban link necklace is made from premium 18 karat (75% pure) gold with a total weight of 153.2 grams! As of today’s gold price, this one contains $8,450.00 in just gold content alone. A higher gold content means more mass, richer colour, a higher resistance to tarnishing, chemical attack, and corrosion. If you want a substantial chain that you can truly live in, a high-quality, solid link design is what you should consider. A chain you want to wear constantly should be as heavy as it looks. Hollow chains are great because you get the look of a big bulky chain without the cost, but they don’t stand up to daily wear. A heavy chain like this can last a lifetime and it has the added bonus of retaining value as few other purchases can. Consider a depreciating asset such as a car. Even a good used one will cost you at least as much as this chain. Once you drive it off the lot there goes $2,000.00. 10-15 years from now when it’s not worth sinking more money into it and you send it to the scrap yard, maybe the recyclable value will cover the cost to tow it away. If you ever decide to sell this chain, you can be confident it contains a substantial value that can’t rust away or break down. You know what, it may even appreciate in price. The value of the gold used to manufacture this chain has appreciated close to 50% in the past 4 years. In these turbulent times, who knows what the price of gold will be 10 years from now? At 24 inches long you may just be able to slip it over your head without undoing the clasp. 8.5mm isn’t the widest chain on the market but at 3.6mm thick, the weight is really concentrated resulting in a great feeling that only high karat gold can offer. With a chain of this value, it’s nice to know the clasp is overbuilt. The oversized figure 8 lobster clasp is in itself a beautiful piece of jewellery. The chain has been treated to a decorative hand-applied Florentine texture to every other link. The alternating brushed/polished finish really showcases the rich colour of premium 18 karat yellow gold. If you’re still reading this description we know you appreciate gold, with that in mind, we’ve opted not to polish or refinish this necklace. Polishing metal means removing metal, this remarkable chain deserves to retain every gram of gold it was originally crafted from. Aside from mild patina, this chain is in great shape. The links show no stretch or wear of any kind. Chains of this quality and size rarely show up. If you’re looking for a Cuban link of substantial value that may even turn out to be a good investment don’t wait too long on this one. Estate priced at $13,000.00 CAD. Stock #431-00407.

Curb and Cuban link chains have been the go-to design for heavy weight necklaces for decades. The traditional look is strong, durable, and masculine. We get the occasional complaint that they can turn and twist while being worn; a bit of a first world problem no doubt, but never the less it happens. The Franco link is a style with no defined front, back, or sides. The rounded cross section is free to roll and twist without losing symmetry, a great benefit for an active rugged lifestyle. We’ve had many requests over the years for a heavy Franco link estate chain but never had one like this. It measures 5.7mm to 6.4mm in diameter and 24 inches in overall length. An 8 1/4 bracelet of the same design is also available making a matching set. We often think Italy has a lock on high end luxury gold chains but this set was made in Germany by Schofer. They have been manufacturing gold necklaces for over 100 years. Known for high quality and attention to detail, down to the smallest features. The quality can be seen in the swivel lobster clasp and chain ends. These heavy pieces and made from premium 18 karat (750) yellow gold. The necklace weighs 92 grams and the bracelet comes in at 32.7 grams. Both are in excellent original condition, neither have been polished since they left the factory floor. We’d be happy to give them a light refinishing to remove any evidence of previous use. They are priced as a set for $12,413.00 CAD, but available separately for $9,150.00 and $3,263.00. With today’s gold price, finding high quality, 18 karat imported chain for under $100.00 per gram is almost impossible. Stock number 431-00378 (necklace), 441-00180 (bracelet).

There’s nothing like a piece of jewellery that comes with its history in tow and this pearl strand came with an original receipt from one of Canada’s oldest jeweller/pawnbroker shops! James McTamney & Co. Inc. was founded in 1860 and still sits in its original Church Street location in downtown Toronto. This particular strand of Akoya pearls was likely purchased as a Christmas gift in November 1995. The high-quality knotted strand measures 24 inches long in total length. Each of the 8-8.5mm pearls has a creamy white luster with just the slightest hint of blush. Finished with a decorative 14 karat yellow gold pearl clasp the strand is still tightly strung and in like new condition. 25 years ago McTamney & Co. sold them for $2,395.00 plus tax (original sales receipt included). Our estate price is $2,093.00 CAD. Stock #e11334 231-00081.

This chain has been professionally polished and is in like new condition. The 4.1mm width is perfect all on its own but could be worn with a pendant. At 26.3 grams in weight, it can handle the heaviest pendant you could possibly have. Estate price at $2,520.00 CAD. Stock #e14119 431-00255.

This set should be labeled “from the East”, invoking that exotic mysterious imagery once conjured by this statement. We can’t say exactly where it came from but the aesthetic is undoubtedly Eastern. The 14 karat yellow gold that makes up the backbone of each piece has been plated with a higher karat yellow gold, creating the luxurious rich glow that the Eastern market demands of their jewellery. The ring and earrings both feature a paisley center with spiraling natural magenta-toned rubies. The earrings have been gifted with fully articulated tails, turning them into chandelier earrings that drop 46.7mm. Their hinged backs snap securely onto the notched posts. The size 7 3/4 ring spans an entire digit during wear at 20.9mm long. The set is finished with a statement neckpiece that hugs the collar bone at 16 inches long. The floral-inspired design has been captured in 322 natural red-pink rubies that bring the total estimated weight of the set up to 37.70 carats! Purchased as a set or as individual pieces, each promises to turn heads! Neckpiece $2,750.00 CAD stock #e14309. Earrings $450.00 CAD stock #e14310. Ring $300.00 CAD stock #e14311.

A fine herringbone necklace is about the closest you can get to wearing a ribbon of gold. This example only measures 0.36mm thick despite being 5mm wide. They drape like fabric across the collarbone and shine brightly with the slightest movement. Unlike the ribbons they mimic, they do need to be worn carefully and stored carefully. One kink and the necklace is ruined forever. But treat it like the precious thing that it is and it will last a lifetime. This example is likely at least 20 years old and is in perfect condition. 20 inches long and made from 9.8 grams of 14 karat yellow gold. Estate price $858.00 CAD. Stock #e14469.

By now I’m sure you know how we like to extol the virtues of high quality jewellery. We love solid, heavy construction, high karat, gold jewellery. Like pretty much everything in life there can be a happy median. This 14 karat nautical link necklace is the perfect example of that concept. It is hollow, yet heavy enough gauge to stand up to everyday wear. The upgraded 14 karat gold is 40% purer than the typical 10 karat alloy, giving this chain more resistance to corrosion and oxidization. The 3.7mm width is large enough to be noticed but not overwhelming. Finally, the estate price of $700.00 nicely fits the budget for a great gift for yourself or someone special. This 20-inch necklace is suitable for use with a pendant or worn all alone. Italian made to a high standard, with a large easy to use lobster clasp. Under $80.00 per gram for 14 karat imported Italian chain is a great value. Estate priced at $700.00 CAD. Stock #e14523 431-00287.

Although white gold is the number one choice when it comes to rings, yellow gold is still the top pick in heavier chains and bracelets. This solid link, 3.35mmwide, curb link necklace is definitely heavy at over 21.5 grams in weight. I suppose you could buy something like this in sterling silver for under $100.00, but that somehow just wouldn’t be the same. Silver tarnishes, it’s lighter, can cause irritation to those with sensitive skin, and wears out much quicker. Even when alloyed with white metals to conceal its true nature there is something very special about gold. A heavyweight, white gold chain is an unusual item to turn up in our estate department. This one measures 24 inches in length, making it suitable for anyone. It remains in its original bright white rhodium-plated finished except where it was polished after the connecting ring to the lobster clasp was permanently soldered shut. This Italian-made chain is in excellent condition showing no wear and tear. It is estate priced at $1,610.00 CAD. Stock #e14203.

This is only our 2nd example of a heavy weight Franco link necklace, and it’s a beauty. Created in Italy using premium 18 karat yellow gold this chain is a statement piece that is long enough to double up on a feminine frame or long and strong enough for even the largest man. It measures 6.2mm to 6.7mm in diameter and 34 inches overall length. The grooved interlocking links add an extra detail the basic Franco lacks, making this style appear more woven than individual links. No front, no back, no sides, and no way to look twisted or kink. It is heavy enough to support any pendant or worn plain. It is so long we can’t even showcase it on our tallest bust display. Heavy 18 karat chains don’t come by very often, less so for anything other than your typical curb or Cuban link standard design. This necklace is in excellent condition showing no wear. It still retains its factory finish and has not been polished. We’d be happy to give it a professional refinishing to make it look truly unworn. With the high price of gold these days, it is difficult to find high quality, heavy weight, 18 karat, imported chains for less than $100.00 per gram. This uncommon estate find is priced at $8,850.00 CAD. Stock #431-00377.

Tiffany’s has a very categorical approach to their boxes, either you get a travel pouch on a bed of faux cotton inside of a blue box or you get their top-quality black velvet box with satin accents tucked into a blue outer box. It must be the price point that determines what box level you get because this simple 18 karat white gold cable chain has been given the royal treatment. The chain retails on Tiffany’ website for $445.00 CAD so this must be close price point threshold for the deluxe box. The 1mm in diameter chain weighs in at only 1.7 grams but measures a comfortable 18 inches long. The chain is in like-new condition and is estate priced for $312.00 CAD. Stock #431-00357

Who’s ready for Downton Abbey: A New Era, coming to theaters March 2022? This antique station chain could have walked off the set it’s so typical for the time period and social class. Measuring 54 inches long it was designed to be wrapped twice around the neck, adding drama to the simplified “la Garonne” dress style that was popular throughout the 1920s. The chains were often worn knotted to make a dramatic drop look, or could be worn down the back, accentuating early versions of the backless dress. This station chain is made from simple infinity links broken up by carved bezels set with warm oval-cut genuine citrines. The 21.7 gram chain is made from 10 karat yellow gold and is estate priced for $1,400.00 CAD. Stock #231-00115.

This necklace would have likely come and gone without notice through our estate department like so many others, except this one has a very clever clasp. Instead of a traditional lobster clasp or spring ring, this one comes equipped with a push-to-release style clasp. The ingenious clasp is modelled after a climber’s carabiner, but with just a fingernail-sized detent to facilitate the spring-loaded opening. This patented clasp is impossible to accidentally open and is extremely secure. The rest of the chain is high quality standard issue Italian construction. 18 inches in length with the popular Figaro style links measuring 2.7mm wide. The heavy gauge hollow links show wear and the necklace is in excellent overall condition. Priced at under $100.00 per gram, this chain is an excellent value. We have many more estate necklaces in stock that don’t appear on our website. Please come in or contact us if you don’t see the style you are looking for. This chain is estate priced at $623.00 CAD. Malachite can almost be considered a by-product of ancient copper mining. The earliest evidence of malachite mining dates to about 3800 years ago when the stone was mined for the copper veins it contained, chipped from the earth with stone and bone tools. It’s not surprising this copper mining waste material quickly became valued for its verdant colour and mesmerizing banding. Present almost anywhere copper was mined the stone was an important decorative element for the peoples of ancient Britain, Russia, indigenous Australia, the ancient royalty of Mexico, across the African continent, and throughout Asia. The colour banding that makes malachite so unique made it the perfect medium for carving with more contemporary carvers crafting complex vases and vessels from larger stones. This strand of malachite beads showcases the variety of banding patterns malachite is prized for. The 11mm beads range from almost mint green at the clasp all the way to deep green/black. They’re accented by 14 karat yellow gold beads with lateral banding to contrast the mostly horizontal banding of the malachite. The 24-inch strand is equipped with a sturdy pearl safety clasp. It is estate priced for $420.00 CAD. Stock #231-00141.

The chain is secured by a stylized lobster clasp and oversized end caps for easy fastening. Estate price $1,540.00 CAD. Stock #431-00307.

Never heard of Edison pearls? Welcome to today’s lesson! Edison pearls are cultivated freshwater pearls farmed in China to rival saltwater Akoya and South Sea pearls. Their main feature is their large size, normally ranging from 11 – 12mm. They come in a wider range of colours than South Sea pearls due to the gene modification the mollusks have undergone to adjust the colour of their mother of pearl shells (mother of pearl body colour has a very strong influence on the finished colour of the pearl, as both are made from the same nacre). The years of gene editing make for heartier mollusks and the controllable nature of freshwater farming make Edison pearls much easier to produce than Akoya or South Sea, which depend on the uncontrollable changing nature of the world’s oceans for successful growth. This predictable farming makes Edison pearl production higher in volume than saltwater alternatives allowing the pearls to be much more affordable. This graduated strand of Edison pearls is a prime example of what these mollusks are capable of. They range from 12mm to just shy of 15mm diameter and from classic white to peachy orange to soft pinks and purples. As with all pearls, the true key to quality lies in the nacre thickness, the thicker the nacre the more sharply the pearls reflect the world around them. You can judge the high quality of these pearls for yourself as you just make out the cameraman in our photos. The 18-inch strand is finished with a brushed 14 karat rose gold clasp meant to blend into the pearls around it. Estate price $1,750.00 CAD. Stock #231-00142.

This modified Figaro link adds a touch of luxury to the classic gent’s chain. By leaving every other long link solid the total weight of the chain increases, making it a heftier presence around the neck. It also adds a subtle shine as those solid sections are deeply concave which causes them to flash brightly at the slightest movement. The 20 1/2 inch long chain weighs in at 35 grams which is made doubly impressive being cast from top quality 18 karat yellow gold instead of the standard 10 or 14 karat. The chain is secured with a heavy lobster clasp for easy opening. Estate price $3,430.00 CAD. Stock #e14499.

Did you know that when you buy 10 karat gold you’re actually buying more silver than gold? 10 karat gold is only 41.7% gold, the rest of the weight is mostly fine silver. This 18 karat necklace is 75% pure gold with less than 25% silver alloy. Its estate nature allows us to price it about the same as brand new 10 karat gold. The chain is 24 inches long, perfect for a man or woman who likes a versatile length that can be worn over any outfit. 2.7mm wide and weighing 18.6 grams this chain is substantial enough to be worn all by itself or with a pendant. Perfect condition showing no wear of any kind. Estate priced at $1,750.00 CAD. Stock #e14118.

Pearl farming is a surprisingly “green” industry! Mollusks are part of nature’s water filtration system which makes them very susceptible to pollution. Every pearl farm is feeling the effects of pollution, whether freshwater or saltwater. As such pearl farmers are on the front lines of pollution control and water cleanup efforts. For Akoya pearls, this is especially true as their mollusks can produce two pearls in their lifetime (Akoya pearls take 6-14 months to grow). Mollusks are an investment, they get cleaned on a regular basis for optimal health, and they aren’t killed during the harvesting process as it takes so long to get them to pearl growing size. Some mollusks, especially the breed used to grow South Sea pearls, can live up to 50 years and grow as large as a dinner plate. Strands of Akoya and South Sea pearls represent an investment in clean water and healthy oceans. This double strand of 6-6.5mm Akoya pearls is the life’s work of 120 mollusks, all doing their part to filter the oceans. The 17 and 18-inch strands are that silky cream colour and fasten with a decorative 14 karat white gold safety clasp. Estate price $840.00 CAD. Stock #e13882.

This neckpiece looks like it walked right out of a fairy tale! We’ve never had anything so ornate pass through our estate department before! Hand set with 224 round brilliant cut diamonds equaling approximately 2.00 carats. The diamonds are all of I1-I2-IJ quality and twinkle brightly at the slightest movement. Each link has been carefully manufactured to limit its ability to flex and rotate so that it always stays perfectly in place. The necklace is made from 23.3 grams of brightly rhodium enhanced 14 karat white gold. All 17 inches are in perfect condition and fasten together with a hidden plunger clasp and safety lock. The collar hugging show stopper will be the crowning jewel of any wedding or gala for the estate price of $2,800.00 CAD. Stock #e11966.

Solid rope chains are few and far between as the norm in the industry is to make this link from interwoven hollow tubes. Meaning that rope chains usually require very thoughtful care as they can be crushed, stretched, or kinked if not worn with some degree of caution. Make them solid like this example and you get a rope chain you can put on and forget about! The 3.8mm link measures a longer-than-most 31 1/2 inches, allowing it to slip easily over the head. If you want to layer it by wrapping it twice around there is a sturdy lobster clasp attached to jump ring ends. The chain is made from an unheard of 40.7 grams of 14 karat yellow gold. When we get a solid rope chain it never sticks around for long! Estate price $2,800.00 CAD. Stock #e13921.

The perfect necklace for a man or woman. Versatile 20-inch length could be worn inside or outside a shirt. The 3.7mm width isn’t too light, delicate, or weak, and substantial enough to be noticed with or without a pendant. Comes with a sturdy and easy to use large lobster clasp. The weight of 6.6 grams is heavy enough that these links are not hollow, providing additional strength and longevity. Priced well under $50.00 per gram and in excellent condition this necklace is a great value. Estate priced at $300.00 CAD. Stock #e14480.

This is probably as close to the Ancient Egyptian Usekh collar as the modern woman can get without looking like she’s walked off the set of some Brendan Fraser movie. The 8mm wide Omega chain is a throat hugging 16 inches long. The mirror finished surface reflects the world in fun-house distortion in a tone that only high quality 14 karat yellow gold can achieve. The 51.5 gram necklace is luxurious to wear and neutral enough for any occasion or outfit. To make it appropriate with any hairdo its been equipped with a sleek box catch that is hidden from view except for its petite safety lock. Priced under its wholesale replacement cost at $3,600.00 CAD. Stock #e12800.

You’ve certainly seen this link style before, especially if you follow our blog, but you may not know the history behind it. This link originated from Cartier (of course) and was part of their exploration into their Panthere line. The link is called Maillon Panthere and is described by the jewellery house as meant to “sensually wrap around the hand, wrist or “décolleté” in a voluptuous feline fashion.”. Our example is not Cartier, simply “inspired by”, and features a slightly more round link profile than the traditional Cartier link. The bracelet/necklace set measures 10.3mm wide by 7 and 17 inches respectively. Both are made from 14 karat yellow gold, weighing in at a substantial 51.7 grams together. Both are equipped with extra springy white gold box catches and additional safety locks. Estate prices are $1,200.00 CAD for the bracelet and $2,700.00 CAD for the necklace separately. Stock numbers e14366 441-00117 and e14365 431-00219.

Weighing well over an ounce this is a significant piece of jewellery made to last. The traditional rope link necklace measures 20 inches long with a diameter of 6.5mm. The extra feature of the white gold box link chain wrapped around the middle of the entire length gives this necklace a little more “bling” factor. Like new condition, never been polished or refinished in any way. The heavy lobster style clasp is easy to manipulate and very secure. The 38 gram chain is pictured beside a standard pencil to give you an idea of the scale of this piece. This perfect condition vintage necklace is priced at $3,990.00 CAD. Stock #e12741.

This might be the perfect chain, not too heavy and not too light, not too long and not too short. The 3.1mm width is wide and heavy enough to be noticed but isn’t too showy. The previous owner must have worn a cherished pendant on it as they upgraded the catch to quite a bit heavier than required. The connecting ring was also soldered shut by hand. Most chains come delivered with the connecting ring only pinched closed. This last step of the production process must be done by hand, most manufacturers leave it to the customer or retail jeweller to solder closed. It isn’t a big deal but it’s nice to see this one has already been done. The 23-inch chain is in like-new condition showing no wear or stretch. The 10 karat yellow gold chain weighs 12.1 grams and is estate priced at $660.00 CAD. Stock #e14451.

Hollow construction doesn’t necessarily mean low quality, durability, or value. Modern jewellery manufacturing technology when used to the extreme is capable of producing some truly impressive-looking items that simply will not last. Large hollow earrings and bracelets can be made so thin they have almost no resistance to dents and can easily be torn like paper. While this 18 karat gold necklace is by the strictest of definition hollow the gauge is quite thick. With a weight of over 20 grams, you still notice the quality. 20 inches in length will allow the 7mm wide chain to just be seen around the average gentleman’s neck with a button or two open on a dress shirt. Italian manufacture from premium material with a guarantee of many decades of use if sensibly worn and kept clean. A large easy to manipulate lobster clasp provides a secure catch. The necklace is in like new condition showing no wear in any of the close to 100 links. Estate priced at $2,205.00 CAD. e12427.

There is an almost infinite number of styles available when it comes to gold chains, and no one does it better than the Italians. This chain could be described as a mix of Figaro, nautical, and figure 8 designs all blended together in a unique style. It measures 2.6mm wide and 24 inches long, making it suitable for men and women. 12.3 grams in overall weight, combined with the rich colour of 18 karat give this chain the luxury look and feel you wouldn’t expect at this price. The links show no wear in the joints. We have left this chain in its original unpolished state. If you’d like it brought back to its original form, one of our onsite goldsmiths can have it polished up to look like new while you wait. This chain is estate priced at $1,190.00 CAD. e14120.

We have all kinds of 10, 14, 18, and even some 22 karat gold chains. We couldn’t possibly post every one of them but they all offer a similar value to this example. A gold chain like this is a relatively simple item to manufacture and also to price. This Italian imported necklace is in perfect condition showing no wear in any of the links. It is secured by a large, sturdy lobster style clasp. For only $73.50 per gram in 18 karat gold, this chain is a great value. Shop around, call other jewellers and ask what they sell basic 18 karat Italian chains for? They’ll likely say, “I’m sorry, we do not sell our chain by the gram”. While they may be reluctant to answer this simple question, I can 100% guarantee all jewellers and manufacturers buy/sell this sort of thing by weight. We’re always keeping your best interests top of mind at Bill Le Boeuf Jewellers. We’ll always be happy to answer any questions you have regarding our competitive pricing policies. We have many other styles, lengths, and karats in stock. Come in or contact us with what you’re looking for. Estate priced at $1,440.00 CAD. Stock #e11877.

What a difference a tiny change to a standard design can make! This curb link chain has been accented with tiny spikes lining up across the middle of each link. These protrusions extend only 0.6mm beyond the inside edge of the link but they completely transform the piece; taking it from a jewellery staple to a statement. The 3.9mm chain measures a longer 24 inches and has been cast from 22.4 grams of solid 14 karat yellow gold. It’s finished with stylized endcaps and a large lobster clasp. Estate price $1,820.00 CAD. Stock #e14018.

Every Art Nouveau neckpiece we get seems to be more intricate than the last! This 120-year-old winged beauty features the standard hand-set delicate seed pearls against warm 14 karat yellow gold. It also features movement-appropriate faceted coloured glass, a backlash against the elitism of traditional jewellery. The purple glass is a fantastic replica of amethyst and adds a touch of head-turning drama to this 50mm wide by 33mm long neckpiece. The necklace is surprisingly long 21 inches and is equipped with a modern spring-ring catch, pointing to the chain perhaps being new. We can custom shorten the necklace to any length while you wait. Estate price for this stunning antique $630.00 CAD. Stock #e14137.

More often than not a necklace is used to display a cherished pendant. Sometimes a chain is worn alone as a subtle accessory. This chain is the star of the show all by itself. It isn’t big and clumsy, in fact, it is light and whimsical in design. Each of the 5.8mm wide links are inspired by a daisy, connected to its neighbor by a light frame. This is a literal “daisy chain”. The pierced milgrain construction is antique looking, yet totally on point for today’s fashion. At 35 inches in length, it can be worn over any top, even a bulky sweater, or doubled up and worn against the skin. Long necklaces make rare appearances among our estate chain selection and seldom last too long. The premium quality necklace is made from top quality 18 karat yellow gold and weighs just under 20 grams. If you’re interested in this item don’t wait too long, at $94.97 per gram I don’t expect it to last long. Total price $1,890.00 CAD plus applicable sales tax. Stock number e14123.

We often get asked for the history of our estate items but honestly, we rarely know about their past lives. Most information we glean from style, the cut of the gemstones, or the techniques used to make the piece. However, this garnet neckpiece comes with its history in tow. Its original receipt from Jewel Qudsi in Sri Lanka, we looked them up and they are still in business! In fact, they opened up in 1989, one year before this necklace was purchased! It looks like they are still handmaking to the same high quality as when they started. This graduated 14K yellow gold necklace has been hand set with 64 natural garnets equaling 45.45 carats together. The garnets are mostly oval cuts with a couple of pear cuts and octagonal cuts. Each has been carefully joined to its partner with three interlocking rings, allowing total flexibility during wear. The necklace measures 17 inches long, keeping it close to the collarbone without feeling constraining. It comes equipped with a box catch with a unique safety lock. Despite being 30 years old the necklace is in like-new condition with only one garnet displaying a chip. Estate price $2800.00 CAD. Stock #e13991.

We have many estate gold chains in stock that you won’t see on our website. Here is an example of what you can expect to see in person if you are able to stop by. Made in Italy, this 20 inch, box link chain is in perfect condition. 1.6mm wide and weighs 10.2 grams. It is suitable for any style of pendant or can easily be worn on its own by either a man or a woman. Being constructed from 75% pure gold, it has great resistance to corrosion and oxidation, making it much longer-lasting than a 10 or 14 karat example. The rich colour of 18 Italian chain is one reason high karat gold is so attractive. The density and feel of a solid construction chain is something we’re seeing less and less of. Most manufacturers are choosing to make more and more hollow, lightweight chain that just doesn’t stand up. This estate chain is estate priced at $900.00 CAD. Stock #e14401.

We are fairly confident this hefty rolo link chain was a pocket watch chain in a past life, probably in the UK considering its 9 karat purity. This style was the most common for pocket watch chains as they slid easily through buttonholes and into pockets. The 47-gram heft and 5.2mm diameter are also indicators as this scale was needed to support a valuable pocket watch. The final clue is the unusual 25-inch length, nonstandard and quite long which would have been needed for tethering the watch to a waistcoat. Whatever its history the chain is certainly statement-making worn around the neck! Its long length allows it to slide over the head but it does come equipped with a heavy lobster clasp for easy fastening should you need it. Estate price $2,100.00 CAD. Stock #e14159.

This puffy Gucci link chain is in brand new condition, looking like it hasn’t been worn at all. The solidly constructed 5.2mm wide links are actually two parts in one, being cast as pairs instead of individual connector links. This innovative design cuts the moving parts in half, reducing the potential wear on the chain. The chain is 22 inches long and weighs in at 23.4 grams in 14 karat yellow gold. Estate price for the like new chain $2,100.00 CAD. Stock #e13502.

We have a number of chains that seem to have been designed to stand alone, and this is one of them. The 2.5mm wide necklace is very thin, allowing it to sit perfectly flat during wear. It features a scalloped edge pressed with high polished facets that flash brilliantly and in opposing directions. They bracket the mirror-finished centers of each link, creating a general eye-catching shine that makes this chain much showier than you’d expect from its narrow width. It measures a collarbone hugging 16 inches and retains its original chromy white rhodium finish, as a testament to its like-new condition. The chain is Italian-made, of course, from 5.3 grams of top-quality 18 karat white gold. Estate price $560.00 CAD. Stock #e14043.

Where hollow construction is concerned an articulated link is the strongest possible option. The die cutting method creates butterflied three dimensional links which fold over one another like a daisy chain. That cutting and forming process is done in one swift blow, cutting multiple links from a sheet of white gold. The rapid transformation creates work-hardened links stronger than any other type of hollow construction. With no solder joints to corrode, the chain is evenly strong without weak points. Made from 13 grams of 18 karat white gold the chain is as solid as you can get without the ridiculous price point a fully solid link would come with. The Gucci link necklace measures 16.5 inches long and retains its bright white rhodium finish except for some wear on the lobster clasp and connecting rings. The heat from a jeweller’s torch was likely the cause for the white rhodium plating being removed at this section. We will provide a complimentary re-plating of this area if you like. Estate price $900.00 CAD. Stock #e11267.

Another probable pocket watch chain whose usefulness outlived the timepiece it was designed to protect. The antique rolo link measures an extra-long 26 inches, allowing it to slip over the head without the use of a clasp. It has one of course, but if security is your aim one of our onsite goldsmiths could remove it, securing any important pendants into the chain for good. At this length and a 3.3mm width, the chain is equally interesting worn alone. Its 9 karat yellow gold points to a beginning in the UK, estate priced at $480.00 CAD. Stock #e14160.

Nautical link chains create a closer, tighter appearance than their curb and Figaro counterparts. The effect is a continuous band of rich gold running around the neck, in this case, premium 18 karat. This Italian-made chain measures 4.8mm wide and 20 inches long. It weighs in at 30.8 grams and comes equipped with sturdy end caps and an oversized lobster clasp. Perfect condition showing no wear of any kind. Estate price $3,010.00 CAD. Stock #e14058.

UnoAerre ares Italian masters of hollow constructed jewellery and this round mesh link necklace is no exception. The beaded style mesh seems inspired by the first snake chains of the late 1800s. These chains usually featured a solid interlocking disk pattern, quite similar to the link on this 20-inch long necklace. The chains were open ended, meant to wrap around the neck, and they were finished with decorative snake tails and heads. Our 14 karat mesh chain ends with simple end caps and a lobster clasp. Estate price $525.00 CAD. Stock #e13973.

Leave it to the Italians to come up with a way to add new life into one of the most popular and traditional chain styles. The standard Figaro link has been around forever and is still a favorite design for men’s chains and bracelets. The short and long oval link pattern on this version has been modified with the addition of small white gold rectangular caps. The caps have been expertly soldered to both sides on all of the short oval links. It certainly adds to the complexity of manufacturing to the piece but the extra effect is worth it. This necklace needs no pendant as the chain itself is the centrepiece. At 20 inches total length the necklace is suitable for almost anyone. A woman will be able to wear it with an open neck blouse or over a light top. For most gentlemen, this chain would be visible with a button or two undone on a dress shirt. For large and extra large guys this chain may be just a little short. Made for premium quality 18 karat gold in Italy the solid link design weighs a significant 18.6 grams. Fitted with an easy to use, over sized lobster clasp, this 4.5mm wide like-new condition necklace is priced at $2,000.00 CAD. Stock #e12166.

The Cuban vs curb link debate is basically rice vs puffed rice, they are the same but one has been blown up to greater mass. Thanks to its width to thickness ratio this 3.55mm x 1.90mm link is definitely Cuban. The 23-inch long chain is well made from 21.7 grams of 10 karat yellow gold. It’s been equipped with end caps and a large lobster clasp. Estate price $1,330.00 CAD. Stock e14484 #431-00251.

This station chain doesn’t feature gemstones or diamonds, but intricate windows of saw-pierced yellow gold. Each of the 13 stations measures 20.3mm long by 5.5mm wide. They’re joined by segments of 1.7mm wide curb link chain, for an overall length of 38 inches. The 18 karat yellow gold chain weighs in at 13.8 grams and is secured by an oversized spring-ring catch. Estate price $1,330.00 CAD. Stock #e14233 431-00114.

A 26-inch long chain is a great option that is often overlooked. On the average man, it provides a bit more length, ensuring the chain stays where you want it; either over top of your shirt or tucked away under the shirt. On a larger gentleman, it wears more like a 24-inch chain, giving lots of room around the neck for extra comfort. This particular 26-inch chain is a decorative curb style with faceted, bright cut links measuring 6.7mm wide. The chain weighs in at 32.8 grams, is constructed of solid 10 karat yellow gold, and is secured by an oversized lobster clasp. Estate price $1820.00 CAD. Stock #e13955.

A common practice with Italian chain makers is to gold plate their pieces with a higher karat plating as a finishing touch. This gives it that intense golden tone you normally associated with 18 karat or 22 karat gold. With a hollow rope chain like this, the hard plating can last a surprisingly long time. Hollow chains like this are meant to be worn on their own, so they don’t receive the wear of having a pendant running back and forth along the exposed surfaces. This 24 inch 3.75mm in diameter hollow rope chain glows like 18 karat despite being cast from 9.7 grams of 14 karat yellow gold. The weight is an indication of heavy gauge manufacturing, making the chain more durable than most of its hollow counterparts. It has been equipped with sturdy end caps and a stylized heavyweight lobster clasp. Estate price for the like-new chain $660.00 CAD. Stock #e13998.

I know we provide unparalleled value, but sometimes it’s still nice to compare prices. Would it be too much to ask other online vendors to supply the weight of the gold chains they sell? Surfing around other jewellery store websites shows some very pretty necklaces, with thorough descriptions, but they all universally leave out the weight. Without this key bit of information, it is impossible to determine who offers the best value. Our latest estate necklace is this beautiful cable link style from one of the most respected Italian manufacturers, UnoAerro. The chain is in perfect condition, showing no wear and tear of any kind. It comes equipped with a strong, easy to use, oversized, spring-ring clasp. It is constructed from premium 18 karat yellow gold and WEIGHS 9.0 grams! There you go, all the information you need to know to determine a great value and not just a price. Remember this famous quote from Warren Buffett, “Price is what you pay; value is what you get.” This necklace is estate priced at $910.00 CAD. e14063.

You probably don’t think much about the origin of the snake chain, or any chain for that matter, but this link, in particular, has a rather unique story. It starts with Prince Albert proposing to Queen Victoria with a ring shaped like a snake with an emerald set into its head. Let’s keep in mind this was 1839 and diamond engagement rings were not yet the “it” thing to do. Victoria’s engagement ring sparked decades of fascination with snake jewellery. Jewellers created an early version of the snake chain that emulated a snake’s scales. It was an extremely time consuming link to make and was normally left open ended, finishing with a decorative snake’s head and tail. As mechanization progressed so did the production of complex chain links like this early snake chain. By 1856 the first US patent was granted for a version of our modern chain seen in this 18 karat yellow gold example. Though machine made there is a wide range of quality available for this link style and it mostly hinges on material thickness. Ours declares itself at the top end of that range with a 42.5 gram weight despite being only 16.5 inches long. The circular scales measure 4.1mm in diameter and finish in decorative end caps and an oversized lobster clasp. Its bulk makes it the perfect transport for any pendant but also allows it to stand out, worn alone. Estate price $3,150.00 CAD. Stock #e13313.

For close to 60 years we have been buying/selling estate jewellery and watches but for the last few decades, we’ve avoided cultured pearls. The pearl market has changed drastically over the past 30 years or so. Once solely the domain of Japanese pearl farmers, the Chinese have taken their freshwater culturing technologies and refined it with industrial efficiency. Today the Chinese-produced freshwater pearls look as good as the Japanese saltwater varieties for a fraction of the cost. Because of those advances, we can only take the best estate pearl strands and pass on the rest. Like all of our estate items, these strands represent the best value of any strand of pearls you’ll find. This particular strand made it into our department due to their illustrious Japanese origin and their trendy, longer than most 22-inch length. The strand is not only fashionably long but also graduated from 3mm diameter near the clasp up to 7mm at the front. The strand of cream-coloured Akoyas is completed with a 10 karat white gold safety clasp. Estate price $420.00 CAD. Stock #e10318.

According to the Vedas texts from ancient Central Asia, pearls were believed to be daughters of the moon. Hard to disagree when you study them closely in person. Each mini-moon seems to be lit from within and many display natural dimpling similar to the imperfect surface of the moon. Even the range of natural colours mirrors the tones of the moon; cream tones, pinks for a late-setting moon at sunrise, oranges and golds for a rising moon, and Tahitian tones for the dark side of the moon. Spend some time with this celestial strand and tell me you don’t see the similarities. Many of the creamy-blush Japanese Akoya cultured pearls making up this Birks strand exhibit very minor moon dimples, though they are only visible under close scrutiny. The 6 – 6.5mm pearls are well matched and clasped with a vintage yellow gold 14 karat clasp emblazoned with the Birks lion. The 24-inch long strand is accompanied by their original blue velvet box and estate priced for $910.00 CAD. Stock #e13828.

Nothing like a subtle shot of white gold to completely transform a chain. Built on a curb link design theory this fancy link creates a tight line of brightly shining, gently curving gold. The entire 20 1/2 inch chain has been grooved down the middle for even greater visual interest. At 4.4mm wide the chain can certainly stand its own. Made from an impressive 31.7 grams of top quality 18 karat with an oversized 10 karat yellow gold lobster clasp. Estate price for this like new chain $3,080.00 CAD. Stock #e13519.

When people are shopping for a new chain and the first word out of their mouth is durability, a compact curb link is our first recommendation. No matter how delicate the scale is, a chain that is made up of heavier single links is always stronger than a chain woven from many tiny, delicate links. That rule applies all the way up the scale. So if durability is the goal, aim for solid over hollow, and a single link chain over woven. This 24 1/2 inch long curb link chain is a great example of simple construction and strength. It only spans 3mm but it’s 1.5mm thick and made of single, interlocking solid links. Despite its smaller scale the chain still manages to weigh in at 16.5 grams of 10 karat yellow gold. It currently features a spring-ring catch but that can be upgraded to a lobster clasp by one of our on-site goldsmiths. Estate price $858.00 CAD. Stock #e13963.

This versatile chain is in perfect condition showing no worn links. It is secured by a strong lobster clasp. The 20-inch length can be worn by either a man or woman. This necklace is estate priced below its wholesale cost at just $400.00 CAD. Stock #e14135.

Sure $2,400.00 is a lot of money, but here’s an interesting way to consider the type of value this necklace offers. If you bought a new car today for $40,000.00 and keep it until there is nothing left but a little bit of paint between the rust and it’s totally used up, it will likely be worth around $400.00 ($200.00 per ton). Compare that to this chain. Keep it clean, wear it every day and it should easily last many decades. If the price of gold doesn’t change from $2,580.00 per ounce (August 14th, 2020) Canadian it will still be worth close to 4 times that of what your once $40,000.00 car is now worth as scrap metal. Even if you run this chain over with a train it still contains around $1580.00 worth of fine gold (not to mention some fine silver too). I know you can’t drive your chain to Florida for a family vacation or to pick up the groceries with it. What it can do is help you feel good and look good. Feeling positive can have an amazing effect on your health and almost every other aspect of your life. That’s really the best part of wearing a great piece of jewellery. This 18 karat nautical link necklace is in like-new condition showing no wear of any kind. At 24 inches in length, it will fit even the largest gentleman with room to spare. We could take 7 inches out and make a bracelet for the lady who wants a matching set. You’ll appreciate the quality once you feel the heft of the solid link construction. Suitable for use with any style of pendant or it can be worn alone. Secured by a large and easy-to-use lobster clasp. Estate priced at $2,400.00 CAD. Stock #e11425.

Solid link chain necklaces do not come in too often. This necklace weighs over 2 ounces and measures a little over 20 inches in length. The 9 karat chain is was likely sold in England where 9 karat gold is the normal variety used in this type of jewellery. The round links are all in great condition showing little sign of wear. Secured by a heavy lobster catch. The great thing about solid link construction besides the fact of strength and durability is that it is much easier to keep clean. Hollow links hold and hide dirt that can be difficult to remove. Refinished and looking like new this chain is estate priced at $2,940.00 CAD. Stock #e6787.
SOLD
Hollow chains are a more affordable option to traditional solid link designs and will last practically as long if you take proper care of them. Most of these chains are electroformed, a process of electroplating layer after layer of gold onto a base metal core. Once the desired wall thickness is reached the core is dissolved away in an acid bath. This process allows almost any chain style to be duplicated in a hollow form but the hollow box chain is one we rarely encounter. As the box link is usually rather compact and petite it is odd to see a manufacturer produce a hollow version of the typically thin and inexpensive design. The motivation here was probably the 26-inch length, higher purity 14 karat yellow gold alloy, and its unusually large 2.9mm x 2.9mm dimensions. The 15.4 gram chain is in like new condition showing no stretch of wear of any kind. The care required with this chain is similar to the care we suggest for most chains; keep it clean, and avoid wearing it during sports or any kind of activity that could snag it. Not to suggest it is extremely fragile, with careful use this necklace will last decades. Estate price $1,120.00 CAD. Stock #e13345.

A solid box link is one of the strongest ways to build a chain. The individual links are not only evenly thick but are also broad giving them more material across their connections. On top of that, the interlocking box shape reduces each link’s range of motion. The more a link can move the more it grinds away itself and its neighbors. By reducing the range of motion and keeping the weight of the chain even and consistent the manufacturer is ensuring that this chain will have the longest lifespan possible. While not quite solid the heavy gauge hollow construction of this necklace is evident as soon as you pick it up. Beyond its durability, this 14.6-gram box chain also measures a desirably long 28 inches rendering its clasp useless as it can slip right over your head. That clasp is an oversized spring ring with simple jump ring ends. To top it all off the chain is made from premium quality 18 karat yellow gold! Previously owned but in like-new condition and priced at $1,400.00 CAD. Stock #e13053.

Pieces like this are not made very often anymore due to the high cost of gold. This is a cast link yellow and white gold necklace. This is not machine-made, each link is cast as a separate piece and then soldered together. It is very well made and quite heavy 23.5 grams. It measures approximately 16 inches long and is estate priced well below its wholesale replacement cost at only $1,650.00 CAD. Stock #e6224.

Extra-long necklaces are very much the trend but almost nobody stocks them. Gold is expensive and gold is priced by the gram, the longer the chain the heavier they become. Seeing a gold necklace longer than around 24 inches in a store is unusual. This 31-inch hollow construction box link chain is long enough to double up or wear over top even the bulkiest sweater. Box link chains are usually rather thin, they seldom exceed 1.75mm, this one is 2.2mm; more than large enough for use all on its own. Despite the hollow construction this necklace still weighs a substantial 13.4 grams. Crafted with pride from premium 18 karat gold. It’s in excellent condition, showing no wear on any links, no stretch, and no previous repairs. We are very fussy about the quality of our estate chains. If any display even moderate wear or signs of repair, they go into our recycling. This statement-making necklace is estate priced at only $1,100.00 CAD. Stock #e12177.

Tennis bracelets are a regularly showcased estate item here at Bill Le Boeuf Jewellers, but the necklace equivalent is a genuine rarity among estate items. This is the first time we’ve had the pleasure to profile one and it’s an upgraded example crafted from over 28.5 grams of premium quality platinum. Platinum is the perfect precious metal to display white diamonds. It’s far more white than white gold, requires no rhodium electroplating, doesn’t tarnish, is more resilient, and far more durable than white gold. The extra density of platinum gives it an unequalled feel of luxury. The 18-inch necklace benefits from the added weight as it stays put and conforms to every contour of your neckline. The 129 individually jointed settings have a flat inner edge while the outside is curved forming a delicate feminine fringe. Each of the settings is further decorated with a fine milgrain border. Bead/bezel set in each and every setting is a bright sparkling round brilliant cut diamond. The diamonds are graduated in size from 2mm diameter culminating in a 4mm 0.24 carat centrepiece. The centre setting has a fold away jump-ring that can be used to suspend a pendant is desired. The diamonds are very well matched and accurately (somewhat conservatively) graded SI2-I1-GH with a very good cut. This item was obviously manufactured for someone, and by someone who understood the advantages of quality. Many diamond necklaces of this style are made from light 10 karat gold or even sterling silver with poor quality diamonds that are reflective but not brilliant or dispersive. The necklace is in perfect, like-new condition, showing no signs of wear and tear. The hidden clasp has even been embellished with diamonds resulting in an endless look. The only evidence of the connection is the hinge and trigger of the built-in safety catch when closed. Accompanying the necklace is an August 2007 appraisal with an estimated replacement cost of $22,450.00. This assessment is at the higher end of a retail price range but not ridiculous. Our estate price for the necklace is $10,500.00 CAD. Stock #e13835.

If you are ever in a jam and need a chain to tow your boat this nautical link example is almost up to the task. Not only does it have an appropriate name it has the size and strength that would leave almost any others stretched or broken. This is the biggest nautical link I can remember coming through our estate department. 10.3mm wide, 3.0mm thick, and just over 22 inches in length are pretty hard to miss. The necklace weighs just shy of 3 troy ounces at 91.8 grams. The key to the strength of nautical chains is the connecting bar running from side to side on each link. Not only does the bar add visual interest by filling in some open space, but it also keeps the links from elongating and stretching should an extreme force pull on it. The chain is equipped with an oversized, easy to operate, rivetted lobster clasp. Looking practically unworn and in perfect condition. Only an ultrasonic cleaning was required to prepare it for sale. Hardly a scratch can be seen on any of its 48 links, even the chain ends that suffer the most stress look like new. It comes with an August 2018 certificate on Evaluation stating a Retail Replacement Value of $15,000.00 plus sales tax. Our opinion of a more competitive replacement value is more like $6,000.00 to $7,000.00 even with gold priced close to 50% more today compared to the summer of 2018. When shopping for jewellery NEVER rely on the opinion of these optimistic appraisals. Get a reliable opinion of a competitive replacement value and an iron-clad refund policy if the item is not valued as described. As a like-new estate item our price of just $4,410.00 offers outstanding value, we guarantee it and offer a 100% refund if you do not. Stock #e13547.

If you aren’t familiar with the nautical link chain it would probably strike you as someone aiming for a Gucci link but trying to avoid a cease and desist order. We promise the nautical link is it’s own category, dropping the puffiness in favor of airy smoothness. Our example is 5.4mm wide by 24 inches long. A problem a lot of guys find with a 20 inch or sometimes 22 inches (depending on the person’s build) chain is that it will shift in and out of the shirt collar during wear. A longer length like this one ensures it will stay where you put it, whether over your shirt or worn against the chest. This warm 14 karat yellow gold example is a hollow construction but still weighs in at 14.7 grams, a testament to its Italian craftsmanship. The chain is fastened with a large lobster clasp for easy closure. Estate priced at $1,260.00 CAD. Stock #e13667.

In this business, there is no hiding from the ever-increasing price of gold. The value of the precious yellow commodity has quadrupled over the past 15 years not to mention the weakness in the Canadian dollar. This combination makes purchasing even a reasonable weight, 10 karat gold necklaces expensive. Getting into 14 karat will cost 40% more; 18 karat will be 80% more expensive compared to the same weight in 10 karat. Our estate, pre-owned and vintage jewellery is a great way to save a bunch of money and still get high quality. We tend to post the heavy, high karat chains but we also have many more affordable 10 karat examples that are sturdy but do not weigh several ounces. This is a great example of what you can expect to find on display at Bill Le Boeuf Jewellers. 10 karat yellow gold, Italian made, solid link construction, 25 inches long, 3.8mm wide, and 12.6 grams. Priced at $660.00 this excellent condition chain represents a great value. Our estate chains are always in like new condition. If any show signs of more than the slightest amount of wear, stretch, or signs of previous repair they get recycled. If you do not see what you are looking for online, give us a call. We have many more necklaces in stock at similar values. Stock #e13528.

Rope chains have always been popular and for good reason. When well made from decent weight tubing, they are silky smooth, long lasting, and give you a substantial look without breaking the bank. This 23 inch example has been constructed from over 1/2 an ounce of 10 karat yellow gold with a large, easy to use sturdy lobster clasp. While it is hollow, it isn’t weak. Try to avoid rope chains that have been constructed from ultra light tubing. The super light stuff doesn’t stand up to daily wear and tear. Keep them clean and a quality hollow necklace like this will last for decades. This example is in excellent condition showing very minor evidence use but no stretched, or worn sections. Estate priced at $840.00 CAD. e13699.

We couldn’t possibly post every gold chain that comes through our estate department but here is a good example of what you can expect to find. We have light chains that cost less than $100.00 all the way up to super heavy weight examples costing thousands of dollars. This solid construction, 10 karat yellow gold example measures 20 inches long and 2.1mm wide. It weighs 6.4 grams and is secured by a large lobster clasp. As with all our estate chains, this one is in perfect condition. No stretch or measurable wear and no signs of previous repair. If any chain arrives in less than excellent condition it immediately goes into our recycling. This chain is priced at $54.69 per gram. That’s a great value when you consider the gold content alone is worth over $33.00 per gram. Once you factor in the silver alloy costs, manufacturing costs, importation taxes, and wholesale/retail markups the price you could expect to see at the typical jewellery store is going to be at least 3 times the actual gold content. Don’t believe us, just call any jeweller and ask how much their 10 karat chain sells for per gram. If they are confident in the value they offer you may get an answer, otherwise, they’re likely to say “ahhhh…. we do not price our chains by the gram”. Well, they may not sell it by the gram but I 100% guarantee they buy it by the gram. We’re all about transparency at Bill Le Boeuf Jewellers, an informed customer is what we’re all about; we want you to be confident in the value of anything purchased from us. We have dozens of other estate necklaces in many different lengths, styles, weights, in 10, 14, and 18 karat gold. This estate chain is priced at $350.00 CAD. Stock #e13701.

This kind of diamond necklace is seldom encountered. The crescent of diamonds allows for more versatile wear than the uber dressy tennis necklace. Graduated diamonds combined with the high on the collar length creates a more laid back elegance while keeping the necklace perfectly in place at all times. The 14 karat yellow gold setting was designed to blend into the skin tone during wear though the delicate herringbone chain flashes at the slightest movement. The 23 round brilliant cut diamonds equal an impressive 2.50 carats of I1-H quality. Each providing a splintery display of white and coloured dispersion that looks best in the lower lighting of an evening out situation. Measuring 17 inches long and weighing in at 13.1 grams the necklace will make a fantastic addition to any special occasion. Estate price $3,500.00 CAD. Stock #e13461.

The foxtail link is one of the strongest in the woven chain family; this Italian made open foxtail link is even more so considering it’s made from 29.4 grams of solid 14 karat yellow gold. Of course being Italian made the quality does not end with the links. The curving lobster clasp has been designed as a feature thanks to the high polished, designer end caps. At just 16 inches long, measuring 3.9mm in diameter it’s quite the chain for any woman who wants to stray from the typical. With 8 high polished sides, the chain flashes brightly during wear, demanding the attention of any passersby. Estate price $2,400.00 CAD. Stock #e9864.

Our estate selection of chains and necklaces are always changing. We have many more than what you see on our website postings. We pretty much always post the heavy weight examples that come our way, but we have far more reasonable weight styles to choose from. This nautical link is a great example of not too heavy and not too light. It is suitable for use with a pendant of almost any weight or it can be worn all by itself. The nautical link design it one of the strongest around. The flat edges catch the light and the braced cross section give it a more unique look than the common Figaro and curb link designs. This one measures 3mm wide, 19 inches long and weighs 6.7 grams. It is suitable for almost anyone. Secured with a durable and easy to use lobster clasp with soldered shut connecting ring. Estate priced at $350.00 CAD. Stock #e13472.

Pearls are one of those items that come first to mind when you think of heirloom. They carry a sense of romance and occasion even if you pair them with jeans and a cardigan. If you’re looking to channel some old Hollywood glamour or maybe a bit of Jackie Kennedy, a multi-strand is what you need. This dressy collar consists of 8 strands of creamy 2.5-3.0mm high-quality cultured seed pearls. This kind of necklace has the advantage of being wearable in multiple ways. You can leave the strands to fall in their natural pattern or you can twist them into an intertwining design for a bulkier look. The 14 karat yellow gold clasp has been designed to be worn as a feature accented with 0.15 carats of round single cut diamonds. Wear the clasp at the nape of your neck with an up-do or off to the side with your hair down. Well over 1000 genuine cultured pearls have been used in this necklace. Can you imagine assembling all the pearls to match, drilling each one, and individually stringing them for less than $3.00 each, and that doesn’t include the high quality 14 karat diamond clasp. The value of this vintage piece is easy to see. Price for this splash of glamour is only $3,150.00 CAD and only in Downtown Barrie at Bill Le Boeuf Jewellers. Stock #e12808.

Gold as we know it is almost never used in the pure 24 karat form that comes out of the ground. It is regularly alloyed to effect its price, durability, and colour. Rose gold is alloyed with mostly copper to give it a blushing colour. White gold is created by adding nickle, silver, or palladium. But green gold, or electrum, is one of the only alloys that can occur in nature as it mixes silver and gold which can be found together. Most modern green gold is not naturally occurring but the product of purposeful alloying. Easy to see why Italian chain masters UnoAerre chose green gold for this 34 inch statement chain. The hollow link combination is eye-catching on its own, cast in bright brassy 18 karat green gold and you get something totally unique. The chain weighs in at a perfect 25 grams and comes equipped with a heavy spring ring, not that you’ll need a clasp as it slips over the head easily. It can be worn as a single long necklace or doubled up at various lengths. Estate price $1,920.00 CAD. Stock #e12426.

A simple modification to the standard figaro link chain can create a surprisingly unique look. The 22 inch example adds a solid rectangular plate to the negative space of each long oval link. The result is also practical as anyone who owns a figaro can tell you the long links like to twist themselves out of position during wear. Not only did the Italian chain makers opt to add metal they also cast the chain from top quality 18 karat yellow gold, bringing the total weight to 32.3 grams. The chain is finished with an oversized 14 karat lobster clasp for easy fastening. Estate price below its wholesale replacement cost at $2,400.00 CAD. Stock #e13529.

One of my favorite aspects of estate jewellery is that we get to showcase the very best examples of jewellery styles that people encounter in their everyday lives. The rolo chain is a very common link that’s touted for the strength of it’s individual chain links. Regularly these chains are found as thin accompaniments to pendants sold in jewellery stores all over the world. This is the biggest example of a rolo chain I’ve ever seen, measuring 4.9mm wide and 24 inches long of solid construction. Made in England from 20.5 grams of super strong 9 karat yellow gold this rolo chain could hold a pendant but can easily hold it’s own without. The 170 hand soldered links are finished with extra large hallmarked jump ring ends and a spring ring catch for easy fastening. Estate price $910.00 CAD. Stock #e9939.

While Mr. T may not be as relevant today he was in the mid 1980s on “The A Team” TV series, there’s no denying he made wearing gold chains cool. This 10 karat hollow rope link chain may not be quite as extreme as those worn B. A. Baracus, it makes a much more tasteful accessory. At 32 inches in length it could be worn as an ultra long single or doubled up for the layered look.Despite the hollow construction it still weighs 9.3 grams. If kept clean and worn with some degree of caution it will last decades. The chain is in like new condition showing no signs of wear or previous repair. It is secured by a sturdy and easy to use lobster clasp. If a chain like this was purchased new it would be considered well priced at $750.00. As a previously enjoyed, excellent condition example we are pricing is below is wholesale replacement cost. Estate priced at just $337.00 CAD. Stock #e12367.

Gone are the days of $300.00 per ounce gold and gone are the days when you could walk into most jewellery stores and see something as well made as this. Pure gold now costs close to $2,500.00 per ounce (Canadian) and manufacturing something as heavy as this would require a retail price of more than $5,000.00 at a typical jewellery store. Bill Le Boeuf Jewellers is not your typical jewellery store and we do not stock average jewellery. Our vintage and estate items represent the best jewellery value on the market. This 5.0mm solid link rope necklace measures an extra long 26 inches making it suitable for anyone. It is in perfect condition, showing virtually no wear in the flexible joints and rings. Its solid construction reveals itself as soon as you hold it; there’s no mistaking the upgraded 14 karat gold and 46.1 gram weight. At today’s gold price this chain contains around $2,125.00 in only its recyclable gold content. It can be used with or without a pendant and the heavy-duty plunger clasp with side safety ensures extra security. The estate price of only $2,640.00 is far below its wholesale replacement value. It’s not often that we encounter a chain competing with its pendant for attention, but this unique almost industrial inspired link is doing just that. The 18 inch long 18 karat white gold chain weighs an impressive 25 grams on its own. During wear the weight is a reminder of the decadent quality of the chain. As testament to its virtually unworn quality it maintains its original chromy rhodium finish. It is equipped with a large jump ring end and stylized lobster catch for easy fastening. See it is distracting! The pendant that has been draped across this lovely chain is equally modern. The open channel slide is set with four slightly graduated round brilliant cut diamonds of I1-K quality. That 1.00 carat total weight of sparkle stretches 22.5mm long making it appropriately head turning. The 14 karat white gold pendant adds 4.9 grams to the heft of the chain. $2,940.00 CAD. Stock #e12768.
SOLD
There is an inherent luxury to a well built chain, especially one of this more compact scale. That surprising heft when you lift the 4.8mm wide faceted curb chain is a guarantee of quality. That weight is due to the higher density of 18 karat gold. If this chain had been cast from the North American standard 10 karat gold (41.7% pure) instead of the premium 18 karat (75% pure) yellow gold it would be close to 25% lighter. The chain measures a more visible 20 1/2 inches long, guaranteeing it will be seen with most shirt collars. The solid 29.9 gram chain is secured with decorative end caps and a stylized heavyweight lobster clasp. The chain is of course Italian made and in like new condition. Estate price $2,200.00 CAD. Stock #e13412.

Gold is expensive and a good sized Cuban link requires a lot because these links are tightly packed, thick and solid. The chain measures 7.3mm wide and 2.7mm thick. With dimensions like that this necklace ends up weighing close to 3 ounces at 86 plus grams. A chain of this quality deserves a clasp that’s up to the task of securing a valuable piece of jewellery. The large over-sized plunger, box clasp comes equipped with 2 side safeties; it’s like wearing suspenders and a belt to keep your pants up. The chain is in like new condition showing no wear of any kind. We’ve had a few Cuban links come in over the years and they never last too long. They are really popular but the cost of purchasing a new one is sometimes a challenge. While not inexpensive our latest example is a great value, priced at only $4,200.00 CAD. Stock #e12894.

If the box link is too “boxy” but you appreciate the strength of the tightly interlocking links, perhaps a rounded box may be worth consideration. If high quality is also something that you’re looking for, this 18.6 gram, 18 karat yellow gold Italian made rounded box link is definitely for you. Measuring 2.0mm thick and 23 inches long the chain is equally suited to being worn on its own or worn with a pendant. Typical of Italian quality the chain has been equipped with thick jump ring ends and a very heavy extra large lobster clasp for added durability and easy fastening. Estate priced at $1,560.00 CAD. Stock #e10281.

Normally rope chains are one of the most frustrating links to own because they are so fragile. The majority of them are made from curved tubes so hollow they dent with the slightest pressure. These chains can only be preserved for any length of time by making them the last thing you put on in the morning and the first thing you take off at night. This particular rope chain breaks all of those norms through its solid construction. The 27.5 gram weight is a testament itself to the high quality construction. The chain measures a longer than usual 30 inches allowing it to slip over the head and it’s long enough to double up. If you do want to fasten it its been equipped with a heavy plunger clasp and additional safety lock. The solid 14 karat yellow gold chain measures 3.25mm in diameter and is priced below its wholesale replacement cost. $1,500.00 CAD. Stock #e12799.

Pocket watches were once as vital as smart phones, worn on one’s person at all times for all occasions. For many they were a requirement of their career and to lose your watch was to lose your job. Making the pocket watch chain much more than a mere fashion statement. These well made timepiece tethers have unfortunately lost their purpose as pocket watches have become mostly obsolete. To bring new life to such well made pieces of history the chains are being re-purposed as layered necklaces. Measuring a total length of 46 inches, the chain can be worn at its full length or doubled and tripled up. Weighing over half an ounce and measuring 2.35mm wide, the pocket watch chain would suit almost anyone and easily fit most any good sized pendant. The strong and oversized fob clasp makes for easy fastening and can be worn at the front or side declaring the history of the chain. Estate price $700.00 CAD. Stock #e10106.

Some may say the flat chain is no longer in style; I would argue a simple, beautiful design like this is always attractive. The polished finish and flat surface of a well-made herringbone chain catches the light and sparkles over every contour of the feminine neckline. What could be more attractive than that? These chains are seldom seen these days as most were manufactured extremely thin and easily kinked. Our latest estate example measures 0.6mm thick giving it good resistance against becoming creased. At 3mm wide it strikes a good balance of getting noticed without being overwhelming. The 18-inch Italian made necklace weighs 7 grams and is secured by an easy to use lobster clasp. Perfect condition and estate priced at $360.00 CAD. Stock #e13525.
