1991 Rolex Submariner 16613 40mm with box & paperwork $15,000.00 CAD. 505-00606

When the Rolex Submariner debuted in 1953 it was regarded strictly as a highly functional “tool” type watch. Made to accomplish a few specific tasks under some very harsh conditions. It was the first watch waterproof to a depth of 100 meters, now they are rated to 300 meters. The rotating bezel made it possible to quickly calculate elapsed time. It was never designed to win any beauty contests. A few decades later a calendar appeared on the watch adding an obvious and handy feature. Shortly after that a solid gold model became available. In 1984 the first steel and gold combination added a new more affordable “jewellery” version. Model 11613 came out in the late 1980s and featured the then new Rolex caliber 3135 movement that powered submariners for the next 25 years. This movement is considered one of the most durable and reliable available. An almost 50 hour power reserve is longer than many automatic watches even today. Retired from production in 2009 has made the 16613 just a little more desirable.  Replacement model 126613 has grown a touch to 41mm diameter but now comes with a ceramic bezel insert, updated case and bracelet but still has the familiar look that was established decades ago. A brand new 126613LN will also run you $22,250.00. This example dates from 1991 and includes the original box with endorsed warranty papers. These are showing up less and less as collectors are beginning to take good examples off the market. A full technical revision was performed on the watch in 2016 including an replacing the factory crystal, crystal gasket, case gasket, bezel insert, vacuum and pressure testing. Overall condition is very good, the bracelet shows very little sag or stretch. The watch has been carefully and respectfully polished, the four lugs are still thick and display a nice crisp beveled edge that often is missing on overly polished cases. You would never guess looking at the condition that this watch was made 34 years ago. Comes complete with original box and paperwork. Bill Le Boeuf Jewellers complimentary 1 year warranty is included for the estate price of $12,000.00 CAD. Stock #505-00606.

Wholesale is the new retail, if you know where to shop. There are great opportunities to be had in our large selection of estate jewellery. Some of our gold jewellery is priced barely over its recyclable value and occasionally even under it. Our better quality natural diamonds with Gemological Institute of America reports are always priced better than the competition and often priced at or under wholesale replacement cost. Our latest estate natural diamond is a great illustration of that. We are very confident this is the best value oval diamond of this size/quality currently on the market. Oval brilliant cut diamonds are the most requested shape, and have been very popular alternatives to round diamonds for a while now. Our latest estate ring should prove to be very popular for someone looking for a high quality natural diamond engagement ring. It measures a 7 and can be adjusted up or down a finger size or two. The ring remains in excellent lightly worn condition. A light polish and fresh rhodium plating would be all that is required to make it look like new. Its flat edge offer an endless selection of possible wedding or anniversary ring choices when the time comes. 2023 Hamilton Khaki Field 38mm manual wind H69439511. $600.00 CAD. 501-00379

The epitome of basic time keeping is the Hamilton Khaki Field series of watches. There is not a superfluous feature to be found on these watches. Hand wind model H69439511 is perhaps the greatest example of this philosophy. 38mm diameter is the perfect size for easy timekeeping reference. Big bold black Arabic numbers plot out the hours with a small 24 hour track and full minute markers on the edge of the dial. The dial itself is a matte finish white. White dials were pretty much the only choice for well over one hundred years before there even were wristwatches. It is an uncommon occurrence to see an antique pocket watch with anything other than a snow white enamel dial. The hour and minute hand, along the outboard hour plots have been treated with luminous material for no light situations. The lollypop seconds hand is painted completely black with no glowing pigment to easily distinguish it from the other hands where making an interpretation error could be fatal. The domed crystal is made from super tough and hard lab-grown sapphire to thwart off almost any scratch producing impact. The case is made from sandblasted stainless steel as it is less reflective than a polished surface and resists scratches. A large 6.5mm crown facilitates easy winding and time adjustment. A threaded case back protects the movement from dust and helps provide a water resistance rating of 5 atmospheres (164 feet). Even the Bund style genuine leather strap is designed for rugged service and not a fashion statement. The two section design keeps the steel case back off the wrist providing an extra level of heat and shock resistance. This style also keep the watch on your wrist even if one of the heavy spring bars breaks. The watch was purchased in Canada in June of 2023 and will remain under warranty for the next owner until 2028. It remains in excellent condition looking practically unworn aside from some minor wear on the leather strap. Comes complete with all its original documents, packaging, tags, protective foam, plastic case back sticker, and plastic delivery sleeve. Old fashion hand wind mechanical wristwatches may seem like an outdated technology but they are still used because they are reliable and relatively simple. It is not uncommon for a well made mechanical watch to run 10 years without any maintenance. There is a certain pleasure to be had winding a mechanical watch every day or so. Hand wind watches also have a soothing audible tick tick tick tick tick sound that is familiar and comforting to those you appreciate mechanics. This Hamilton Khaki Field is estate priced at $600.00 CAD. Stock #501-00379.

2023 Hamilton Khaki Field “Murph” 38mm H70405730. $900.00 CAD. 501-00322.

Looking for a no nonsense basic timekeeping tool that gets the job done in classic style? The Hamilton Khaki Field models are your kind of watch. Large hands for instant time interpretation, big Arabic hour markers, and a minute track are characteristics you’ll find on almost every Khaki Field. Some are powered by very traditional hand wind movements and some are self winding like this one. Based on the old school ETA calibre 2824-2 from the 1970s but thoroughly tweaked by Hamilton’s watchmakers for modern performance. Dubbed the Hamilton C07.611, this movement features 25 lab-grown ruby jewels, shock protection, and a really long 80 hour power reserve that is partly achieved by its slower 21,600 cycles per hour rate. This workhorse movement is visible through the screwed  on display back. The antique appearance of this Khaki Field is reenforced by some truly antique style luminous hands that look like they came off a 1st World War trench watch. What makes this watch interesting is that it played a key roll in the 2014 Matthew McConaughey movie Interstellar, where it transcends the movie characters generations. There are few day to day consumer products that can do this as well as a wristwatch or piece of jewellery. A good Swiss watch can easily last 3-4 generations with only the occasional service requirement. The actual movie watch was a giant at 42mm diameter, but the more user friendly 38mm version (H70405730) like ours was introduced in late 2022. It wears larger than you’d expect as there is no thick bezel taking up valuable dial space. The lug to lug length is very manageable for even a thin wrist. This watch was purchased at Yorkdale Shopping Centre Toronto in the spring of 2023. The fully endorsed warranty will cover the next owner until April of 2028. It remains in perfect condition looking unworn. Even the tan leather backing of the strap is perfect. Great looking, classic design, with a fun Hollywood connection. This watch comes with all its original documentation and is estate priced at $900.00 CAD. Stock #501-00322.
