2018 Cartier 1895 wedding ring, 3.5mm wide, size 7, 4.84 grams. $980.00 CAD. 401-00301

If you’re a practical person, you’d be right thinking a well made wedding ring is the same whether it came from Cartier or your local mom & pop jewellery store. After all there is nothing proprietary or unique about a gold wedding band, right? All that is true except deep down I think we’d be kidding ourselves by saying that famous bands like Cartier, Tiffany, Van Cleef & Arpels don’t hold some extra appeal and value. Well a premium quality, brand name estate wedding ring like this allows you to have your cake and eat it too. When it comes to more complex creations and jewellery set with precious gems, the big luxury brand names are expensive, but we were surprised to find this ring on Cartier’s website for $1,480.00 CAD. While this is certainly a little more expensive than we could produce a ring of like quality and weight for, it still represents strong value. This sturdy ring weighs in at 4.84 grams and contains $540.00 in simply gold content (as of April 28, 2025). In terms of a gold value to retail price a ratio of 1 to 2.75 makes for really strong value. When you consider our estate price is just $980.00 CAD, this ratio drops to an even more appealing 1 to 1.81. It feels strange analyzing something as emotional as a wedding ring like this, but as estate jewellers and appraisers we need to be able to demonstrate why estate jewellery makes great sense. This ring was purchased at the Cartier Boutique on Bloor Street Toronto in 2018 and comes with everything from the original boxes, certificate, travel pouch, to a Cartier shopping bag, all in perfect condition. The ring is in excellent condition and has never been polished. It displays some minor scratches and scuffs associated with light use. If you wish, one of our onsite goldsmiths can refinish this ring in just a few minutes to restore it to like new condition. The subdued rose gold hue is a little less obvious than yellow gold, the small addition of copper mixed in makes the ring a little harder than traditional yellow gold alloys. It measures 3.5mm wide and measures a finger size 7. It showcases a gentle rounded dome profile with a height of 1.8mm. All the original Cartier identification stamps are intact along with its unique serial number. Cartier rings like this seldom show up in our estate showcases and we don’t expect this one to last long. 2022 Tudor Black Bay 58 79030N 39mm with JB jubilee bracelet $3,600.00 CAD. 505-00536

Tudor has finally released a Black Bay 58 on a Jubilee style bracelet as a new model for 2025. Currently, if you want a Black Bay 58 on a jubilee bracelet you can only get one with a bright fuchsia dial and bezel for $5,770.00. This 2022 estate watch is not that model. We’ve always thought the slightly small dimensions of the BB58 would be perfect on the more flexible and slightly dressier jubilee style bracelet. The previous owner of this watch took matters into his own hands and assembled the model he wanted but Tudor never made. He took delivery in April of 2022 with the brown leather strap on the popular black dial/black bezel BB58 79030N and immediately replaced the strap with this high quality JB jubilee stainless steel bracelet from Forstner. While this bracelet doesn’t add a lot of cost ($180.00 USD) is does add a lot of extra value, utility, and versatility to standard issue watch. The fit and finish while not quite a nice as a Tudor original, but it is much nicer than many OEM bracelets from rival companies. The adjustable links are secured by properly threaded screws, with far more machined threads than we typically see even on original Tudor bracelets! The end links are solid sections that fit the unique contour of the case and fit the spring bar lug holes perfectly.  The buckle is a locking design requiring both side buttons to be pushed before releasing the clasp. There are enough adjustable links to fit a wrist of over 8 1/2 inches in circumference. The rest of the watch is standard off the shelf Black Bay 58. These watches are some of the best values on the secondary market now that prices have settled. These Black Bay series offer features normally reserved for watches costing several multiples more. The in house MT5602 manufactured 25 jewel automatic Swiss-made movement is keeping excellent time. This proprietary chronometer rated mechanism comes standard with an extended 70-hour extended power reserve. In the past, Tudor watches used movements made by other companies. The MT5602 is the first mechanism developed and manufactured by Tudor for use in their watches. The watch remains in original condition, it has never been polished or refinished. It shows small scuffs, scratches on the case and bracelet. There are a few small impact marks on the sharp edged bevels but nothing significant. The factory 5-year Tudor warranty will cover the new owner until the spring of 2027. Comes complete with the like new original Tudor leather strap with locking deployment buckle, all documents, endorsed warranty card, paper hang tag, and inner/outer boxes. Mercedes Benz logo pendant with 18 diamonds (0.10ct. tw.) 5.3gr. 14kt. $720.00 CAD. 161-00348

The 3 pointed star is a corporate logo that is easily recognized worldwide. The simple design has been symbol of Mercedes Benz since 1909 but it goes back quite a bit further. It was inspired by an 1872 postcard from the company founder to his family in which he identified their home with a three pointed star. The 3 points represents the companies intention for their engines to dominate the land, air, and sea environments. Mercedes Benz has seen success in marine and aircraft engines, it is their automobile production that they are most well know for. This 14 karat yellow and white gold expression of the logo has been made to a standard worthy of the brand. Solid construction with a finished weight of 5.3 grams in upgraded 14 karat gold. The white gold background has been decorated with a reflective dimpled finish and 18 tiny single cut diamonds scattered throughout. Another 3 point star has been fashioned into a large hinged bail that can fit a chain of close to 6mm. The pendant measures 21.5mm in diameter and is in excellent condition showing no wear on the bail or connecting ring. Estate priced at $720.00 CAD. Stock #161-00348.

1988 Omega DeVille Quartz 30mm 6340.23 396.1017 $1,000.00 CAD. 510-00117

Surviving the quartz crisis of the 1970s left Omega a much different company than it had been before the advent of the modern electronic era. If you wanted to compete with Japanese watches, companies like Omega needed to produce less expensive gold plated quartz watches. This De Ville was right on point for the fashions and trends in the 1980s. Just 5.4mm thin, this is a dressy watch with day to day utility and an ultra accurate, efficient, reliable, fully jewelled quartz movement. This is a very rare De Ville 6340.23 from 1988. We never see these anymore, especially in this condition. The heavily gold plated case (20 microns) shows only light surface scratches, there is no base metal showing through anywhere on the 30mm x 30mm cushion shaped case. The clean white dial offers excellent legibility with printed Roman numerals marking the hours. An outer minute track, calendar display and seconds hand add some useful function to the dressy design. The integrated two tone bracelet is infinitely flexible thanks to the small “beads of rice” style. A clever design sliding buckle keeps it length down while incorporating the link pattern across the back of the clasp. The locking buckle can be released by pushing a discreet button on the edge. This watch is 100% original, it has never been polished or touched up in any way. The lab-grown sapphire crystal is in perfect condition, displaying not even the smallest scuff or blemish. Swiss quartz technology is really amazingly reliable, we believe the 6 jewel calibre 1430 (ETA 255.411) has never been serviced. The watch may have sat unused for a decade or two but it appears the movement has never been taken out of the case for service. The gold plated hands show no signs of removal, often there is slight evidence of tool marks on the movement screws if they are removed for service. The condition of this De Ville is as good as it gets for a plated Omega of the era. Comes with an excellent condition vintage Omega box, instructions, and wallet. We just installed a fresh high quality silver oxide cell, the new battery should keep this watch on time for the next couple of years. When it comes time for replacement, the circuit inside will let you know when the battery is running low on power. When you start to see the second hand pause for 5 seconds before catching up, it is time to replace the battery. We are happy to supply the next owner with a 1-year warranty. 14 karat gold “Amore” disc pendant 1.49gr. 18″ Italian made. $245.00 CAD. 436-00186

Sometimes the simplest of designs can convey the most meaning. Not much to say here except this stencil text must have been cut with a laser to get this sort of precision. The disc measures just 14.7mm diameter but is easily read thanks to the highly reflective surface polish and negative space where the letters have been cut away. It is suspended from the popular style cable link necklace measuring 18 inches in length. The flat polished links provide some sparkle as the pendant slides and the chain rolls. A large spring ring clasp makes getting it on and off quite easy. Naturally made it Italy to a high standard with excellent finish. The chain and pendant weigh 1.49 grams and comes in our blue presentation box. A gift like this is sure to have far more sentimental value than actual monetary cost.
