0.75ct. tw. SI-I princess cut anniversary ring, size 6 1/2, 4gr., 14 karat gold. $1,140.00 CAD. 121-00043

Princess cut diamonds were the most popular shape for engagement rings around 15 years ago. Today it’s oval shaped diamonds that are our most often requested. When it comes to channel set anniversary rings like this, princess cut diamonds have always made the most sense. When tightly set, side by side in a low channel they offer an uninterrupted display of sparkle and brilliance. Round stones in this sort of setting look good too, but will always shown some empty areas of dead space. Princess cut diamonds are cut the same as a round diamond but with a square outline. They look a little smaller given their slightly deeper cutting proportions but offer a perfectly straight edge when expertly set in an anniversary style ring. The 10 princess cut diamonds in this ring each measure approximately 2.25mm x 2.25mm and weigh a combined 0.75 carats in total weight. They are very well matched of SI-I clarity and colour. This ring is constructed from 14 karat white gold in a finger size 6 1/2, weighing a sturdy 4 grams. The backside is open for easy cleaning with two connecting struts for added security. We can only adjust the fit up or down about half a size. It was crafted in Canada by long time manufacturer Corona Jewellery in Toronto. The ring is in hardly worn condition and would fit without gaps with any flat edged engagement or wedding ring. It also looks great all by itself on the right hand. This ring is estate priced at $1,190.00 CAD. Stock #121-00043.

Omega Speedmaster 3513.30 39mm Automatic $2,000.00 CAD. 510-00137

Speedmasters have been a core product for Omega since the 1950s. As the vintage watch collecting hobby comes of age it’s possible to see early examples of originals selling for 6 figures. This watch is around 25 years old and comes with the very subtle and sophisticated tone on tone silver dial. At 39mm diameter, these watches are amazingly comfortable. The locking sliding buckle is shorter than most and fits the average to slim wrist better than the larger Speedmaster models. The steel tachymeter bezel scale is reminiscent of the Rolex Daytona bezel. Did you know the original Speedmaster from 1957 featured a similar bezel 6 years before the Rolex Cosmograph even debuted. Unlike an early Daytona, this watch is available without taking out a 2nd mortgage to finance it. It is also self winding with a handy 31-day calendar, that no Daytona has ever been equipped with. Powering the Speedmaster 3513.30 is a 25 jewel Omega calibre 1152 (modified Valjoux 7750). These workhorse movements are renowned for their reliability, serviceability, and accuracy. They can easily be tuned to well within chronometer levels of accuracy. The history of the Omega Speedmaster is one Omega’s most valuable narratives and they leverage this story in a multitude of versions. Modern Speedmasters are among the most popular models offered. Getting into a new Speedmaster will have you spending a minimum of $7,600.00, with prices escalating to well over $100,000.00. Our estate example appears to be in regularly worn original condition with scuffs, scratches, and the occasional light impact mark. The 19 link bracelet shows very little sag and no stretch. It is working great and keeping very good time. Including a complimentary 1-year warranty our estate Speedmaster is estate priced at $2,000.00 CAD. Stock #510-00137.

1.80 carat blue topaz stud earrings, 1.9 grams, 14 karat white gold. $315.00 CAD. 211-00239

Topaz are a great choice for coloured stone jewellery. Theoretically they come in an array of colours, are quite durable, and they have optical properties that make them sparkle as well as almost any coloured gem can. Common topaz usually form almost colourless. In the 1950s it was observed that exposing colourless topaz to artificial sources of radiation can cause them to turn very attractive shades of blue. The process gained popularity in the late 1970s and has been widespread ever since. The more saturated dark London blue topaz can display low levels of radiation that is short lived.  The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) regulates the initial distribution of irradiated gemstones, including blue topaz, to ensure they are safe for handling. They state there is no reason to believe that wearing irradiated gemstones is harmful. Our estate estate blue topaz display a colour somewhere between “sky blue” and “Swiss blue”. They have ben expertly faceted in a brilliant cut fashion to best promote their brilliance. The 14 karat white gold button studs have an outside diameter of 8mm and will nicely fit most earlobes. Secured with sturdy friction backs, the earrings weigh close to 2 grams in total. Looking virtually unworn, and in like new condition still displaying the manufactures original bright white rhodium finish. Bright, colourful, low set and easy to wear. They make a perfect accessory to that spring/summer outfit. Estate priced at $315.00 CAD. Stock #211-00239.

2010 Movado Bela Moda 0606263 24.5mm $700.00 CAD. Stock #501-00127

Movado, like many Swiss watch manufacturers, was established in the late 1800s. They first began producing watches in the town of La Chaux-de-fonds Switzerland, the birthplace of numerous high-quality watch brands. Also like many other Swiss brands, mergers and alliances formed over the years. After the quartz revolution of the 1970s, numerous Swiss brands disappeared or merged with other companies. In the 1980s Movado was purchased by North American Watch, later changing its name to The Movado Group. The less is more philosophy has been a Movado look since the introduction of the Museum watch in the 1940s. A large dot at 12:00 on the face symbolized the sun, the single index was the only reference marker on the entire dial. The “Museum” style soon defined the brand, and to this day it is the look that personifies the brand. Our lady’s stainless steel Bela Moda features the classic glossy black museum dial. The highly polished, reflective hands are surprisingly easy to see and interpret the time with. The circular link bracelet integrates perfectly with the 24.5mm round case. The fold-over buckle disappears in the bracelet as it looks just like another connecting link. Model 0606263 features 8 high-quality (VS-H) hand set, round brilliant cut diamonds adding a touch of sparkle to the otherwise casual look. After a professional polishing, cleaning, and battery, the watch is running perfectly and looks almost like new. The previous owner was careful to keep the original inner/outer boxes, instructions, and endorsed warranty card with the watch. This model is no longer a current offering with Movado, but their watches featuring a few smaller diamonds have prices now starting at over $1,500.00. Including a 1-year warranty this watch is estate priced at $700.00 CAD. Stock #501-00127.

2018 Cartier 1895 wedding ring, 3.5mm wide, size 7, 4.84 grams. $980.00 CAD. 401-00301

If you’re a practical person, you’d be right thinking a well made wedding ring is the same whether it came from Cartier or your local mom & pop jewellery store. After all there is nothing proprietary or unique about a gold wedding band, right? All that is true except deep down I think we’d be kidding ourselves by saying that famous bands like Cartier, Tiffany, Van Cleef & Arpels don’t hold some extra appeal and value. Well a premium quality, brand name estate wedding ring like this allows you to have your cake and eat it too. When it comes to more complex creations and jewellery set with precious gems, the big luxury brand names are expensive, but we were surprised to find this ring on Cartier’s website for $1,480.00 CAD. While this is certainly a little more expensive than we could produce a ring of like quality and weight for, it still represents strong value. This sturdy ring weighs in at 4.84 grams and contains $540.00 in simply gold content (as of April 28, 2025). In terms of a gold value to retail price a ratio of 1 to 2.75 makes for really strong value. When you consider our estate price is just $980.00 CAD, this ratio drops to an even more appealing 1 to 1.81. It feels strange analyzing something as emotional as a wedding ring like this, but as estate jewellers and appraisers we need to be able to demonstrate why estate jewellery makes great sense. This ring was purchased at the Cartier Boutique on Bloor Street Toronto in 2018 and comes with everything from the original boxes, certificate, travel pouch, to a Cartier shopping bag, all in perfect condition. The ring is in excellent condition and has never been polished. It displays some minor scratches and scuffs associated with light use. If you wish, one of our onsite goldsmiths can refinish this ring in just a few minutes to restore it to like new condition. The subdued rose gold hue is a little less obvious than yellow gold, the small addition of copper mixed in makes the ring a little harder than traditional yellow gold alloys. It measures 3.5mm wide and measures a finger size 7. It showcases a gentle rounded dome profile with a height of 1.8mm. All the original Cartier identification stamps are intact along with its unique serial number. Cartier rings like this seldom show up in our estate showcases and we don’t expect this one to last long. If you like the warm rosy hue of pink gold and the premium feel of 18 karat, this ring is worth consideration. It is estate priced at $980.00 CAD. Stock #401-00301.
